I never paid too much attention to the whole Natalie Holloway story, but didn’t some Dutch TV station use hidden cameras to get footage of good ol’ Jan VanDer Sloot confessing/bragging (years after the disappearance) about killing N. Holloway???
I guess what I am saying is that the presumption of innocence for Van Der Sloot is not as strong (IMHO) as it would be for your average Jan or Pieter—Am I alone in feeling this way?

I’d forgotten about who this guy was so I looked it up on Wiki. It sounds like this creep has spent the last five years telling different stories about what he did to Halloway and then retracting them, claiming to be lying or on drugs or some such. At one point, he was shopping around a tape which he claimed was a phone call of him and his Dad(!) discussing the murder - but it turned out that the "dad’ was just Joran himself trying to lower his voice(!!) I wish we could hear what his dad, the Judge, thought of that little exploit.
I am not sure, but something tells me that 40 years in a Peruvian prison might make young Joran wish he could trade places with his old sweetheart Natalee…
Yes, Dutch crime journalist Peter R. de Vries set up an elaborate sting operation to get him to confess. The guy who played the role of the mole, Patrick van der Eem, wasn’t precisely an angel either - but the information harvested was enough to at least label Van der Sloot a killer in the Dutch public perception.
Without a body though, it still wasn’t enough to pass as evidence in an Aruban court of law. And I know Aruba’s gotten some bad press over this especially in the US, but just to set the record straight: Aruban criminal law is basically a carbon copy of Dutch criminal law. This isn’t the banana republic it’s sometimes depicted as in US media - or at least, in some instances I’ve seen.
Many a time the detectives working the case have expressed frustration about the lack of evidence - there’s not a whole lot they can do unless they get either a body, a confession, or a reliable witness. Wiki the case to see how that’s panned out - poorly.
Maybe this’ll be the clincher that’ll put Joran behind bars for good. I wasn’t there and I speak from gut feelings mostly, but this is too much to be a coincidence. This little fucker’s an absolute psychopath that needs to be put away, regardless if he ever admits to anything. But for the sake of closure for ms. Holloway’s relatives, I hope he does one day.
Doubt there’s much Daddy can do for him now.
At least these parents will be able to get justice.

I maintain most killers are serial killers, or at least killing are caused by serial killers.
If a person kills once and gets away with it, he is more likely than most people to kill again.
