How do I do the strike-through thingie?

I searched but came up with nada.
You know, where someone posts a word or phrase, strikes it through or crosses it out and adds a different word or phrase. Usually for comic effect.

So anyhow, how do I do that? Thanks.

[del ] [/del ] Close up the spaces in the brackets, text goes in between.

Like[del] this [/del] that?

Squeee! That worked. Thank you!

An easy way to see how something is coded, just find a post that’s formatted that way, then quote the post. The text in the quote box will show the formatting. So, bold, italic, underline, you see are just B, /B, I, /I and U, /U.

How come the strikethrough option doesn’t appear as a button along with bold, italic, etc?

Yes, we should have a full-featured word processor text editor implemented with [sub]subscript[/sub], [sup]superscript[/sup], and [del]strikethrough[/del] options, along with bold, italic and underline!

Hah!
That reminds me of another question…how to get the little TM (trademark) thing to show up as, I guess, a superscript?
(I just experimented with [superscript] TM [/superscript] and it didn’t work. I’m not very savvy with this sort of thing. Obviously.)

Character map. Select, copy and paste. Thus™

What is "character map? Pretty please.

Character map.

In Windows 7-Start button>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

TradeMark[sup]TM[/sup] (using the [ sup ][ /sup ] tags) produces a different effect than TradeMark[SIZE=2]™ (using the Character Map “Copy & Paste”) or TradeMark™ (using the key combination {ALT+0153}.) The latter two (functionally identical) methods [/SIZE]insert a single glyph(character) which has the form of the two letters “TM” within one character space.

In any thread, scroll down past the quick reply box. On the left side, there’s a box that says “Posting Rules”, and it has links to the BB and smilies code.

It’s not a standard vB feature, and was added via a (relatively simple) modification. Whoever made the modification didn’t feel like also adding the (much more complicated) code to make it show up in the GUI. Same for superscript and subscript.

This is also why different boards which have that that feature often use different tags for it.

How about trademark[sup]TM[/sup] (a superscripted TM with a reduced size font).

By all means, that may look very similar to the trademark(™) symbol which gets inserted using the character map options. It is slightly more involved to use, however, and does not really conform to the “standard”* usage of a single glyph to indicate a trademarked item.

*which is important to us pedants.

You can also do lots of weird combinations, interesting a sub or superscript can wind up with two slashes (in different colors even) if you do it right

[del][COLOR=“gray”]Trademark[sup][COLOR=“Red”][del][COLOR=“Indigo”]TM[/del][/COLOR][/sup][sub][del][COLOR=“brown”]TM[/del][/COLOR][/sub][/COLOR][/del][/COLOR]

may not display right if your browser handles things differently, tho

eta: does not look right in Chrome

I know it’s not the official character. But I personally would find it easier to use than remembering or looking up ALT+0153.

Trademark[sup]W|[/sup]

Incidentally, in at least some versions of Explorer (though not Chrome, annoyingly), you can get quick italic, bold and underline tags by typing Control-I, Control-B and Control-U.

There are probably others as well, but I haven’t run the entire keyboard.

I have. There may have been one more, but, otherwise, that’s it.
