How do I find rough estimates on incomes for different jobs (preferrably by state)?

I need some rough information to plot differences in pay for similar jobs from one region to another. Does anyone have any ideas where I could find something to find such information?

(disclaimer: Not homework, as many would assume. trying to help a friend with job choices in a few areas he is thinking of moving)
