microsoft live services has iirc 500mb free storage. you can share with specific recipients only or open access to anyone on the web. also a plug in tool that allows you to upload a large number if pics. you need to set up a passport account - free on-line registration.
thanks for the replies, everyone. t-bonham@scc.net, I’m a techno-peasant - is there any risk to uploading photos to an internet site? can I get viruses?
I use Imageshack. It’s probably about the same as other photo sites: free, easy to upload and display, and so on. But it’s another site you may wish to consider.
If you’re downloading, sure. Uploading? Not so much. Unless you’re using a dodgy site that insists you install their dodgy software (that’s infected with a dodgy virus), there’s no reason why uploading photos should put your computer at risk. But in case you aren’t doing so already, you should have an up-to-date virus scanner running on your PC that will help prevent anything sneaking in. AVG Anti Virus is free and worth a go.
I can vouch for both Picasa and Flickr being good sites as I’ve used both. As a bonus, the Picasa program (by Google) is free to download, does a good job of organising your photos and provides simple-to-use editing tools.
I use PhotoBucket to share images. I tried some others and had trouble uploading through our company firewall. PhotoBucket worked fine though. I usually upload from home but sometimes I need to load one or two from work.
FYI, Photobucket, Imageshack, and others are sometimes blocked for us at work.
Google products such as Blogspot and Web-Albums are not blocked where I work.
If it means reaching more of us during the day you might want to consider this option.
Picasa is very easy to use and getting photos from your camera to the Web-Album is painfully easy.
