The original ones full of holes. The sandally ones with the odd strip that can go behind your foot or on top. The more waterproof ones that limits exposed foot area?
Good for work? A sign of high or low fashion? Comfy substitute for shoes? Seventh sign?
Never tried them. I’m old enough to remember Jelly shoes (mid 1980s) and how much they tended to stick to feet. Can’t imagine Crocs are any less uncomfortable that way.
Ugly as hell. I had a pair, back when they first became popular – they were a semi-joke gift from a friend, as they were branded with a Green Bay Packers logo, and were bright green with yellow straps. I wore them a few times (only inside the house), but I didn’t find them to be comfortable.
Great for the boat or beach. Comfortable house shoes you can wash. When was the last time you washed your slippers? They’re not great on long walks, but if they didn’t look so dorky I’d wear them outside more often than I do. I’m a fan.
Wear whatever you want. Last spring I scraped the back of my ankle pretty badly and it became a non-healing wound due in part to my shoe rubbing the area.
I began soaking my foot twice daily and switched to wearing slides. I wore slides all spring, summer, and fall. They were comfortable af. I may have gotten some looks, but I don’t notice stuff like that, so the tree made no sound.
I’m not ashamed to admit…I love them. No they are not pretty, but they serve a great purpose. I just wear them in my house, or around my property doing this or that. I have not so great feet…can’t walk around barefoot without discomfort, and most slippers do not provide enough padding and or support, but the Crocs are so comfortable.
I have two original pairs from way back when that are still going strong (albeit a little worn on the bottoms). One has the strap, and the other is a slip on with a bit of a lip up the heel to hold your foot in, and it has a fleece liner that you can remove to wash (not easily but can be done).
Years later I bought a few more pairs, but they changed the plastic to a stiffer more hard material, and while they still serve the purpose, they aren’t as comfortable as the originals, but don’t hurt my feet at all.
If you have the kind of job that requires you to stand on your feet all day (and no dress code), I think they are a great shoe for that. A lot of chefs wear them. Or if you like your feet to be able to breathe, or not get too hot, they are great for that too.
Do any of you know any young people? From what I understand, Crocs have been fairly fashionable over the past few years and have have done collabs with celebrities like Bieber, Bad Bunny, Diplo, and Post Malone. They have even done collabs with famous fashion designers. The young people, teens and kids that I work with all seem to love them.
I love them as well. So easy to slip them on. After you wear them for about a week, they form to your foot and are very comfortable. Gotta wear them with socks. I have this fairly rare blue/black/gray camo pair, and I get compliments on them all the time.
Not all Crocs look like clogs, which admittedly aren’t too pretty. I wear ballet Crocs all the time. They aren’t THAT ugly. And they are super practical, especially when you live in a rural area where you are constantly walking through grass/mud, because that’s just the way it is.
Looks like there are some crocs that don’t look totally stupid. I’ve never seen those before, or didn’t even realize they were crocs if I saw them, so I have to reform my opinion of these things.
The most comfortable shoes I know. They tend to get slick as the tread wears away — almost dangerously so. I have very high arches, and have put OTC supports in some of mine (tastefully color coordinated).
I’m conflicted on the topic of style vs. comfort, but definitely lean toward comfort and simplicity — fuck powdered wigs, neckties, and clothes that inhibit movement.
Crocs have always been popular with nurses. I resisted the trend for ages but now own the three different pairs as above. I wear them in public all the time, but stick to the black ones. I have even worn them with a jacket and tie, and you know who cares? Nobody. I am a big fan. I think they feel good and look okay.
I love my crocs! I keep a pair at each of my house’s doors, for gardening and just walking around outside in wet weather. Also for when I need to shovel or sweep off an inch or snow fast for whatever reason. Especially for early morning trips to refill our bird feeders. The ground near those is plastered with seed hulls and, yes, bird shit, so as I step back inside I step out of the crocs, take them to the sink and wash them off – no more crap tracked inside!
I don’t (yet?) wear them ‘in public’ except for runs to pick up fast food or hit an ATM or some such ‘stay in the car’ outings, but I care less and less about how people react to my attire. By the time I die, I’ll probably ask to be put in my coffin wearing them!
Never tried the holey version. Recently replaced my LL Beans w/ a pair of solid Crocs clogs. Wanted something waterproof for outside. The Beans’ soles wore such that they became very slippery.
