How do you go about finding a job in another city?

On a very limited budget… i.e. not being able to fly out for interviews on a whim?

I can fax a resume and such… but after that I have really no idea what to do. I have to move so badly, however I have no savings and no job!

I submitted a resume through headhunter.net, one of the fifty bajillion job sites out there.

Also, get your hands on that city’s newspaper’s classified ads. Some papers have their classifieds online, which is great if you can’t find a print version.

Good luck.

It depends on your trade, I suppose. I posted my resume on www.insuranceworks.com and had a call within 2 weeks. I didn’t have to fly down for an interview (a savings of about $900 CDN) or anything.

I was head-hunted for this job. People in the industry all know one another one way or another, so when you hear of something opening up, you tell your contacts that you know are looking. It’s like a big incestuous family.

When I was interviewed, it was over the phone, we negotiated through email, and the offer came through email as well.

I also found my home online. I love the internet!

Good luck to you!
