I’ve been in a semi-rut socially so I’ve done something extreme (for me) and put up all my geek toys (HDTV, extra computers, DVDs, all my video games & consoles) for sale. That money’s going to a motorcycle, after I finish a BRC course. Also asked a couple of guys out for a first date last week–never been the first before (and they both accepted). I also let my friend persuade me into taking a flight lesson, though I don’t have the desire to follow through to the pilot’s license.
When I was right out of college, I got in on a summer share house with some friends. I occassionally do a ski house. It’s fun because each weekend (or every other weekend if you’re a half-share) you and your friends have someplace to go where you know there’s beach and a social scene. At the time it certainly beat my normal rut of hanging around my parents house looking for a job.
And it’s not that expensive. Sure it can be pricy if you go to the Hamptons or someplace but usually a couple grand will get you a decent half share someplace.
But like anything else, it can turn into a rut. By the end of my first summer on the Jersey Shore, I was pretty much sick of the beach, getting shitfaced in post-college meatmarket shore bars and clubs, yappy housemates and juiced-up Guidos.
Usually a couple of weekends as a “guest” at someones house is enough for me to break the monotony.
Wesley Clark and interface2x My state is supreme. All others should strive to be more like it. Actually, I was just really tired that day and misread that (or read it correctly and didn’t process it anyway). Apologies on that. Perhaps my typo could be the answer. Ever consider taking a trip to Bloomington, IL?
