How do you normally dress?

Obviously it will vary day to day, but generally what do you choose to wear and where do you get it from?

Do you wear a uniform to work and so put on casual jeans etc on your days off without really thinking about it? Do you always make an effort in what you wear or dress as casually as possible? Do you try and make a statement with your clothes or do you like to blend in with the crowds? Do you dress to fit in with a trend or group like hippies, goths, bikers etc?

Do you buy your clothes from general high street chains or from odd off-shops? Vintage or modern? Cheap or expensive? Do you make your own clothes or use hand-me-downs from friends and family? Do you have loads of clothes or not many at all? For special occasions do you make a real effort with what you wear or not really bother that much at all? Do you have different clothes for special occasions that only get worn a few times a year (like a suit)?

Do you judge how other people dress? Do you really dislike some trends or outfits? And would like to be able to wear things that you don’t choose to wear currently?

And if you had to give a description of your favourite outfit, what is it?

I get my clothing from wherever. High end shops, thrift stores, friends who give it to me. I don’t care, as long as I like it and it fits. Typical daily wear for me at home and at work :

These jeans are my current favorites

Type of shirt I would wear

Checkerboard Vans, my favorite shoes ever.

I usually wear a 3/4 length pea-coat in the winter, and a zip up jacket or old blazer from a thrift store as a jacket if it’s warmer. I have nicer clothes if I need to dress up, and a few suits, too.

Opps I forgot to put in my own answer.

I don’t wear a uniform to work and generally don’t ever have to dress in formal clothes but I always want to look ‘nice’ and clean. I think about what I want to wear in the morning and generally don’t throw any old thing on.

I guess I have two different styles-a slightly boho, girly hippy style and a more sporty modern style.

I mostly wear above the knee skirts with brightly coloured tights (red, blue, turquoise, green, pink tights) in the winter and chunky knit cardigans or jumpers, and knee high Ugg boots or cowboy boots. Sometimes I wear tightish jeans with just a hoodie and trainers, but I prefer skirts and tights. If I’m spending a lot of time at the gym during the day I just wear lycra bottoms and a man sized hoodie.

I look for one off unique clothes and try and avoid things that everyone wears. I go through phases of not buying anything for ages and then buying a few things once every 4 months or so. I probably spend about £100 once every 4 months. I wear a few of my Mum’s old clothes that she wore in the 70s and kept until I stole them.

In the summer I wear flip flops or gold sandals with floor lenth Indian or Thai wrap around died skirts and floaty strappy tops with lots of long jewellery and a bikini underneath. I wear a lot of holey ponchos. Sometimes I wear Reef sandals with knee length surf shorts and a TShirt. I much prefer dressing in the summer.

I like what I wear to reflect where I have travelled to and so try and buy as much as I can when I’m away in Asia and Africa. Partly because I love the colours and partly because it is so cheap.

In the evenings when I’m staying in I get changed into my P.Js as soon as possible-so long fleecy bottoms that have snowmen or brightly coloured patterns on them with drawstring waistbands, a TShirt, hoodie and then a mohair hippie poncho thing that goes over the hoodie, socks and a giant slipper boots.

Apart from when I’m wearing jeans and a hoodie, I’ve had a lot of people asking me if I’m going to a fancy dress party because of what I wear when I’m not. That just makes me giggle.

Nothing anyone wears bothers me but I do think a lot of people look boring a lot of the time because so many people (including myself) wear just blue jeans and a jumper in Western societies. I love it when someone stands out from the crowds and is wearing something quite creative and unusual. If a girl is wearing something quite slutty (a really really short skirt or their boobs are hanging out of something) I guess I do look down at them and think ‘tart, how can they wear that’, but apart from that I try not to be too judgmental. What elderly people wear really makes me smile. In England it is all creams and greys and browns. There are such typically ‘old English people clothes’.

Niiiccce jeans, but wow you spend that much on them?!!

I have those trainers! But in red and white.

I’m somewhat fashion conscious, as in I’m usually aware of what is “in” that season, but I won’t wear said fashion unless it’s flattering on me. Mainly I just try to look nice - jeans or an A-line skirt with a top of a matching color. I hate high necklines or tops that are too tight. I also have an aversion to tops with letters or graphics on them. I also like wearing casual dresses that have a touch of funkiness to them - like maybe they are of a sensible design but a stand-out color, or have an asymmetrical hem. I also am a big fan of knee socks - the kind that stretch above the knee to around my thigh. I shop everywhere from department stores to underground markets.

I do notice how people dress, and I can be quite catty about it too. (I know, it’s shallow, but I can’t help it.) What mostly catches my eye are things like too much makeup and mismatching colors. Or people wearing clothes that don’t flatter their body type (prime example: muffin tops).

I bought them on ebay. The only things I’ve spent that much on are shoes and a few of my coats.

Cool!

Ah yes good idea. I can’t buy things on Ebay because they never fit me. Instead near where I live we have a big discount shopping village where I can things cheaply.

I try them on in the store, to get the right size, then look on ebay. It works for me about 9 out of 10 times.

That is a good idea thank you! (I may need to prepare myself to spend some money this weekend now…)

One of my things when choosing clothes is that it should be unremarkable on first glance every year though the last 50 years, so nothing with loud logos, too much colours

So mostly Levis jeans (black and blue), my all-stars and t-shirts, wool sweaters, and a dark sailor jacket

The idea is that should I get teleported back in time I should be able blend in until I can get my bearings, any timeframe larger then 50 years draws attention right now.

Most of my clothes come from J. Jill, Target, Land’s End, Eddie Bauer, and L L Bean. I have a few things from Banana Republic and Anthropologie… and I get my Levis jeans at Meijer. I also snag the odd designer sweater from eBay.

In the winter, I wear jeans with cabled cashmere sweaters and pearl stud earrings. This winter my sweater colors are cocoa, ivory, coral, and aqua. I’ve been wearing dark brown leather boots, wristwatch, and purse with it. I have a white wool coat with daffy vintage celluloid brooches on it.

In the summer, I wear billowy knee-length skirts with sandals and Old Navy tshirts. I have two white skirts I wore almost constantly last summer, with red and blue shirts and red sandals. This summer I’m getting a red skirt, too, and adding green and pink shirts. Big, bright colors.

Spring and Fall are a little more difficult. I have some interestingly-designed white blouses and some fine-gauge cotton pullovers and cardigans that I wear with jeans or lightweight dress pants or black calf-length straight skirts. This year I’m accessorizing that with lots of vintage celluloid and bakelite jewelry I’m buying on eBay.

I dress basically the same whether at work or at play. Usually business casual, khakis or slacks, with a sweater or blouse or decent top. In the summer I love wearing skirts and sandals and dangly jewelry. On the weekends when I go out I might throw on a t-shirt, but I’m still going to wear khakis. I haven’t worn jeans in years.

I’m not over-the-top rigid in my clothing selection, I’m neither trendy nor slovenly. I shop almost exclusively at Sears, because for some reason I love everything they have.

I love dressing up on special occasions. I went on a cruise to Europe a few years back (a gift someone gave to us) and the ladies were instructed to make sure we had three formal evening gowns. I LOVED finding and deciding on those gowns, and eventually wearing them. Dressing up (to the nines) is one of my favorite things to do. I’m not any kind of fashion diva, I just love the whole panty-hose/heels/evening gown/expensive jewelry feeling. It’s like playing dress up, everyone’s chance to be a pretty, pretty princess. I love it. Especially if there is dancing.

Funny how few pictures there are that show one’s clothes. Here’s how I usually dress in the summer - jean skirt with some kind of tank top. This dress is also a summer favorite of mine.

I have that same clock hanging in my foyer.
Nice legs, by the way.

I don’t wear any specific brands or labels… I do try to dress fashionably, but like Haze I try to pick the trends that actually flatter my shape rather than mindlessly wearing whatever is popular right now. (You know that whole baby doll dress with leggings look that was all the rage for the past few summers? Yeah, I avoided that like the plague)

I guess the easiest description for my style is preppy with a twist. I love the whole Anthropologie look, but I tone it down by using one funky piece and mixing it with more basic/classic elements.

In the summer, it’s usually a summery cotton dress of some sort, worn on its own or over a pair of cropped pants, and ballet flats or sandals. If I’m not in a dress mood, then a tank top with a long swishy skirt or a pair of rolled-up jeans are my usual.

In the winter, it’s a pair of trousers for work or bootcut jeans/cargos on the weekend, a simple cotton top, and a cardigan/hoodie/sleeveless vest for warmth. Or if weather permits, I’ll wear an a-line skirt and fun-coloured tights with a pair of wedge heels. And lots and lots and lots of sweaters… I have more sweaters in my wardrobe than anything else.

Jeans and a t-shirt, just about every day. I telecommute, so I figure anything beyond underwear is pretty much formal wear for me.

Four days a week - slacks and a blouse or in warmer weather I try to do skirts a lot. My skirts are always knee length and rather girlish - I have a young face, may as well take advantage of it.

Friday I do wear jeans but I almost never wear sneakers and usually wear semi-nice blouses even then. Sandals a lot in the warmer weather. Plain black shoes the rest of the year.

Weekends? Whatever I feel like, pretty much.

Cool. A lot of my friends like it - it’s from Bed Bath and Beyond, surprisingly enough. The clock, not my legs. (Thanks for the compliment. )

I dress very professionally for work, always dresses and high heels, or nice pants. A few years ago, they wanted to put us in uniforms, but a couple of us raised a stink and the issue was dropped. I was surprised at how strongly I felt on that issue; it struck right at my self-image. I had always worked in cashier jobs, wearing a polo shirt and khakis, so I was feeling pretty good about working in an office and wearing “real” clothes. Besides, it didn’t make any sense for us to dress down

Nearly all my clothes are hand-me-downs, thrift-shop stuff, or given to me as gifts. I need and like clothes, but I’ve developed something of a phobia about shopping for it. I have a hard time finding stuff I like, and when I do, it doesn’t fit, or I balk at the price tag. Also, I’m a small female, age 38, living in a college town. I’m petrified of becoming “that old lady who wears kids’ clothes”.

Ordinarily I wear jeans. I have 2 pairs that fit properly, kept for special occasions, and about five pairs that almost fit, which get me through the average weekend. Tops/T-shirts…well, I’m afraid it’s time to go shopping again.

I also own the requisite “little black dress”. I don’t care for it, but it’s …suitable.

Contrary to how this post sounds, I think I am usually dressed decently!
