I’m going to slide this over to Cafe Society, it fits in a bit better there.
Oops, I thought I put this in IMHO
From a fountain over crushed ice is my preference. I also prefer cane sugar crafted soda (or whatever they call it) in bottles to the more big named manufacturers, though if it’s from a fountain I like Dr. Pepper, especially if they have crushed ice. I do like whatever the mix or blend is at Lumpy’s for Cherry Coke (and they do the crushed ice exactly as I like it) and I love the new soda mixer thingy at Pei Wei (crushed ice there too), especially with the ability to mix cherry with my Dr. Pepper.
Refrigerated cans for me, nothing better. Can over ice is a close second.
Can or glass-bottled “soda” over cubed ice… in a glass. Crushed ice and fountain soda is too much water.
glass bottled sugar soda with ice cubes hacked from a block of ice with a pick. Ahhh.
I do not like ice in my soda at all, though I will occasionally get just a little at a self-serve fountain to make sure the drink is cold enough. My real preference would be cane-sugar soda from a fountain, but I haven’t seen that available in quite a while, so such sodas in glass bottles are my current “treat” soft drinks.
Anecdotal: I had 8 guests at my house on Saturday, and I had stocked a half-case of assorted cane-sugar sodas (Coke, Sprite, and root beer) and a half-case of HFCS Classic Coke (which all of the guests are known to drink). At the end of the day, all the cane-sugar sodas were gone, while only one HFCS Coke had been consumed…and that only after the supply of the other flavors ran out.
Soda from a fountain over cubed ice for me.
I stock up on 2-liter bottles in the spring when the kosher l’Pesach Coke hits the shelves. That stuff is awesome.
I prefer my soda straight from a can. Then from a fountain with a few ice cubes (enough so it stays cold, not so many it gets watery). Then from a 20-oz bottle.
Coke from a bottle, not chilled, no ice.
I don’t like warm coke but slightly cool is best.
Next best is fountain soda with a little ice.
Oh, that’s the game you wanna play? Ok. I like my soda with a chunk of ginger root still in the green glass bottle, trickled over a champagne flute filled with ice shavings scraped by the teeth of a polar bear off a treacherous glacier floating in the arctic.
Ha! I’ve been known to lose a can of Diet Mountain Dew in the house, find it a day later, and drink it!
I don’t care if it comes from a can, bottle or fountain - it has to be cold and it can’t have ice.
Ice waters it down. I notice the difference in just a few minutes. Also, wherever it came from it has to be properly carbonated. I buy cans instead of large bottles for this reason, but a bottle is fine as long as it was previously unopened.
The worst is restaurants that don’t have their fountains working properly and I get a glass of flat soda. Hello! I didn’t order this because I like how it looks!
Dr. Pepper is much like beer in that it can be flavorful at all temperatures.
Decanted from a can into my favorite glass. No ice. I prefer sugar-free soda, not only in terms of calories, but also in terms of texture.
From a bottle into a iced cup-that’s mainly because the only soft drink I will tolerate anymore is Boylan’s root beer, which comes in a bottle, and I hate it when it significantly above 32 degrees.
In a glass. Ice cold (or close to it), but ice only if necessary, e.g. outside in warm weather.
In a glass, with ice.
I don’t care if it came from a can or bottle or what, and I’m not particular about the shape of the ice.
Pretty much me. I don’t understand how people can stand iced sodas unless they drink them non-stop until they are gone.
But I still think the best would be fountain, since those are always cold, while can and bottle may not be cold (although that’s okay with some sodas).
