How Does A Business Find Businesses?

I am trying to seek out labs that test mechanical equipment to document the performance claims (on behalf the manufacturer). How do manufacturers locate such labs? General search engine seaches usually bring in a swarm of medical or environmental labs with little else. But, I believe there’s more technical-type labs out there, but where?

Just hoping someone might know a better way businesses handle this. In general, how do businesses find the exact technical support they need, or is it a hunt-and-peck effort?

Thanks,

Think of trying business-to-business yellow pages?

A couple of suggestions.
Contact the engineering school at a University in your area, they probably know of labs in the area.
Check to see if there is a manufactors trade association that represents the industry in your region. Generally, their associate or supporting member list will include labs that provide the service you are looking for.

Well before search engines there was the Business to Business Yellow Pages (The B2B).

How about checking trade journals?

Maybe check with Consumer Affairs to see if they can recommend someone.

Sorry that is all I can think of for now.

Meet contracts through professional associations.

Ads in trade-specific journals.

Trade shows.

Purchase trade-specific mailing lists; send ads to same.

Ask your counterpart at another manufacturer who s/he uses.

The yellow pages.

  • I have a few others similar to this on my work computer, but it’s the big one and I’m at home right now. And of course, much of it depends on where you are located, which I don’t know because TOO MANY OF YOU PEOPLE DON"T PUT A LOCATION IN YOUR PROFILE!!!

Well for us out of country folk, I have no idea where you are anyways.
I can tell the USA part but are you not feeling well or is IL a place?

OK, so I probably don’t need to know as I can’t contribute to the thread anyway.
