How does Lindsay Lohan make a living?

I usually have a thing for redheads. Especially natural redheads with freckles.

I’ll pass on seeing Lindsay. Her lifestyle and addictions are just too much for me to stomach. Anything she does right now is from desperation and it just seems exploitative. That picture of her teeth turned my stomach. They are fixed now, but her life is still in decay.

Go SDMB, my ignorance has been fought. Q has been A’d.

I forget where exactly, but I think it was in a publication that you buy in a publication store. It said she promotes movies via her tweets, and does appearances at clubs.

Paris Hilton earned a fortune doing club and private party appearances: not a euphemism for prostitution or anything like but literally private parties where it’s a hook that a celebrity is in attendance. The really nice thing is a lot of this kind of money is “cash in a brown paper bag” money- no taxes or commissions coming out of it. I would imagine Lindsay gets plenty of brown paper bag money from going to this party/that restaurant/this club [if it doesn’t violate her probation] without having to peddle her boudoir favors, plus as mentioned she earned millions when she was working and there are probably people willing to risk giving her credit in hopes she’ll do a Robert Downey turnaround.

The Todd Bridges comment doesn’t surprise me: Gary Coleman was famous for being broke but he probably had a much higher income than most Americans. Of course out of that he probably had to pay medical bills which would have been substantial, but otoh he didn’t live in Beverly Hills so his lifestyle wasn’t that expensive. About the only washed up stars who can’t make a living (not necessarily a fat one but a living) are the ones like Corey Haim who were too strung out to be reliable.

This would have been great news when she was younger (but still legal), healthy, and attractive. A few months after Mean Girls came out, say.

Now? Not so much.

I remember around the time that the movie came out (2004-ish), I even used her as an example in a class presentation of a positive role model (body/health/looks-wise), since she was a healthy weight, seemed to celebrate her natural looks (freckles and red hair), etc. Oops.

Lindsay Lohan is a redhead? I thought she was a blond.
I guess I never saw her early stuff.

Lindsay as a kid. Lots of freckles and red hair. She must wear a lot of makeup to hide those freckles as an adult.

Well maybe, but IIRC Coleman was working for a time as a mall security guard which doesn’t indicate to me that he was making any substantive appearance money, but then again Coleman was kind of an erratic personality which may have been crimping his earning.

One grouple of people who made huge bank were the Brady kids. Years after the show Barry Williams AKA Greg Brady was used to getting 10,000 - 15,000 minimum just to show up and shake hands and that was 15-20 years ago well after the show ended. He was amused that people would call up and think he would come entertain them for a few thousand dollars.

And if she hadn’t already shown off many of her attributes in New York magazine:

Her Annie was inspired, but I found her Hallie derivative.
Although, I suppose she might have been playing Hallie as an homage to the Annie characterization… any Strassburgians here who can speak to that?

Okay, I missed being first to report that she’ll be doing Playboy, but as far as I can see, I’m the first to post an actual cite.

Unfortunately, that was when she was in the first throes of her downhill slide. She was already looking bedraggled when this shoot happened. Then again, she still looked better then than now. :frowning:

I can argue with dismissing TMZ for journalistic integrity . . .
. . . but in terms of factual accuracy, this is the kind of thing they usually get right.

So, I think my TMZ cite earlier in the Thread is entirely valid . . . especially since your linked article offers the TMZ report as their cite for the story. Sorry, I’m not giving up my crown. I’m still the winner.

As I’ve asked before on the SDMB… when’s the last time a layout in Playboy was a great career move?

If Lindsay Lohan needs the payday, and Playboy is willing to put up big bucks, good for her. But really, in this day and age, posing for Playboy is like being the “celebrity” on ***Match Game ***or Hollywood Squares. It’s like playing the killer on “***Murder, She Wrote,” ***or playing Doc/Gopher’s latest girlfriend on "The Love Boat."

It’s a sure sign that you’re over the hill, washed up, and can’t get a real gig any more.

“Stars” typically pose nude in Playboy years AFTER their male fans have stopped paying any attention to them (Farrah, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Nancy Sinatra). Lindsay Lohan would be just the latest example.

One thought :- I’ve read several times that publicised Playboy fees for celebrity shoots need to be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

I’ve read suggestions that the celebrity can basically claim any amount they want, and Playboy won’t dispute it.

Lindsay had her parole revoked last week. She’s out on bail right now. She goes back to court Nov 2 and could be facing prison time. They don’t pay very well in prison.

Agreeing to Playboy could be her effort to bank some money in a hurry. They said she’s already posing for the pictures.

Or not:

Inquest: Singer Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning

I don’t mean to call out the posters here. There has been some contradictory information on this, so their positions were supported by some reports. But it appears that she did have plenty of alcohol in her system, enough to kill her.

You heard that Lindsay? Stop doing drugs. Also, stop dyeing your hair.

Just to close the loop on Winehouse, the inquest report on her death came out today. She died of alcohol poisoning (apparently having fallen off the wagon in the days leading up to her death); her blood alcohol level was over 5 times the legal limit (for driving) in Britain, and well above the level considered to be fatal.

Edit: (Didn’t see Clark Cello’s post before I posted. Ooops!)

Too true. But a handful of actresses have managed to do the opposite and leverage a Playboy appearance into a career jump-start: Kim Basinger, Drew Barrymore, Erika Eleniak, Carmen Electra (Boy that list drops off after the first two!).

If you want to make a career of taking your clothes off (as Carmen Electra and Jenny McCarthy seemingly did), then a Playboy spread is a great start. Lindsay Lohan USED to be talented and popular enough to aspire to a lot more than that.

And let’s not forget that Dana Plato went this route, too!
