Bonus points for the Lebowski quotation.
I am the walrus.

They might raise their kids to revere Trump. Proverbs 22:6 “ Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

I don’t think Netanyahu is going to be real pleased with those comments.
Yes, as usual Trump tried to make the Hamas attack all about himself, which is not going to go over well with Israel, Biden’s speech was apparently very well received. So I think there is a good chance that Biden might replace Trump as the Israeli favorite. We’ll know precisely point when that happens when Trump’s tweets start being full on antisemitic.
I’m not sure there’s going to be a clear demarcation line. Don’t forget Ivanka married into a Jewish family and he’s already got a long history of antisemitic tweets ranging from problematic to vile
He might go full-on anti-Israel or anti-Netanyahu, though, which, in his near constant addled state could easily turn antisemitic by association, because that’s just the way his dysfunction works

I’m either an optimist or a fool. I’m holding out hope that things will improve and whatever hold Trump has on his followers will fade once he’s either dead or imprisoned.

I’m less optimistic. I believe they will grumble for years, and crawl back under their rocks. All while brainwashing their spawn to rise again.
They have been developing since the dawn of man. It is VERY tribal. Many don’t want to think for themselves. Many of us do.
There’s reason for the pessimism. The last time we as a nation were quite so nativist/racist and played with fascism, it took WWII for us to back away from it for a couple generations. A world spanning war resulting in tens of millions of direct deaths is not exactly a great precedent

trump is meining some increasingly kampfy sources for his rhetoric lately.
You, on the other hand, have been mining for gold, and finding it. Lovely sentence, pure gold.
Thanks, bobot!

My fear is that if he’s sentenced to prison, the ensuing riots by the magatoflatearthers will make January 6, 2021 look like a little kid’s game of playing gunslinger.
I don’t think so. Those riots were caused by Trump. He won’t be able to stand in front of crowds to whip them into a frenzy when he’s behind bars, and there isn’t anyone else in his orbit capable of taking his place in that role.
He has that fairly unique ability. Take him out of the equation, and you won’t get more than a lot of whining and a few lone nutcases.
Agreed. And here’s hoping!

I share your concerns. Practically speaking, it’s relatively easy for me to blend in with MAGA types here in Arkansas, so as long as I keep my mouth shut. But I’m working on the assumption there will be violence. If I’m wrong, great.

I doubt he’ll be immediately sentenced and hauled off to prison, as much as I would love that instant gratification. He’ll be out on bond pending sentencing and, of course, appeal. He’ll go out and stir the shit.
Sadly, I don’t think he’ll even need to do that. His minions are already primed for it. And we already know who their targets will be. I’d hate to be a member of one of the minorities those idiots despise when the gavel comes down.

And I don’t think Y’all Qaeda will get off their whiny asses unless someone goes through a lot of elaborate coordination to do so, which is what happened on January 6.
Could something like that happen? Sure. But I would hope that the authorities would be better prepared next time.
It’s not that the authorities were not prepared, it’s that they were desperately trying to avoid a left vs. right showdown, which would have played right into Trump’s plans.
The Jan 6 crowd didn’t catch anyone by surprise. It was expected. The greater fear, though, was a confrontation like what occurred at the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va. That was what Trump was hoping for and what he was holding the DC National Guard (NG) back for when they were needed.
My belief is that if there had been a significant build-up of security around the Capitol, it would have been difficult to keep the left-wing protesters away. They would have felt their presence was needed, to protect the Nation. If there had been any significant resistance to the Jan 6 rioters, Trump would have called in the DC NG and declared martial law.
There was a whole lot of organization behind the Jan 6 riots, and a lot of counter-planning on the left. IMHO, the counter-planning came out on top.

My experience with most Tighty-Righties (and Fundie Christians and racists) is that they’ve spent so much time in their bubble that they assume everyone agrees with them.
So if you want to keep your head down and watch the game at your local sports bar, you can. And if someone insists on sharing their political views with you and you want to immediately change the subject? Just know who to complain about (in Seattle, it’s Russell Wilson. In Packer Country, it’s Aaron Rodgers).

Wouldn’t that now be Denver/Boulder/Colorado Springs?
