“Ontario” is an Iroquois word amyway, there’s not even anything specifically Canadian about it. If you want to play stupid nomenclature games in your childish cross-border feud, at least pick toponyms that have some specific national connotations to fight over, like trying to make “Gulf of Mexico” into “Gulf of America”.
Moreover, Canada is part of North America already. If anybody proceeds any further with this idiot scheme, I suggest trolling the Trumpies by simply referring to it as “Lake North America”.
Wait until someone tells Trump that “America” is Italian (or at least derives from the name of Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci). Someone should start a petition to change the country’s name to something more legitimately American.

This is what Trump really wants. He’s gone to great lengths and effort to subsume American identity as being indistinguishable from supporting him personally. It’s a conflation of the state apparatus and culture with a single individual. Not dissimilar to Hitler’s Germany or Stalin’s Russia. Or even modern-day North Korea with Kim Jong-Un. I’m sure there’s a term for this in political science, I’m not sure what it is, I’ve seen several possible explanations. But every time he threatens to rename some natural phenomena or landmark with “America” this is what’s really going on. It’s another manifestation of his narcissistic urge to slap his name on everything.
I feel like I’m casting about for in articulation of an idea that’s been rattling around in my head for a while now. Is this resonating with anyone else or am I way off base with this idea? Serious question.
