So it all comes back to Sarah Chalke? Really!? That’s what you’re going to go with? Or do more twists await us? She’ll be busy next year if Scrubs gets renewed.
To be fair, I’m stuck at hotel with crappy motel-o-vision cable and it looked like Sarah Chalke to me but it might not have been.
Yeah it was her. When they first showed the hand and wrist, I assumed it was her. I didn’t like her character, though I don’t think the audience was meant to. Maybe her character has grown since the canceled wedding.
I dislike Sarah Chalke intensely. I’m sure she’s a very nice lady but I haven’t enjoyed a single character she’s ever played. If I have to put up with a few more seasons of her, I’m gonna be annoyed. I’m hoping for a twist.
Sarah Chalke can’t be mom since we’ve already met her. But we know the Yellow Umbrella has something to do with mom. So presumably, Ted is going to meet Sarah Chalke’s younger, hotter sister.
I believe it has alreaady been established that the blonde is NOT the mother. Ted must meet the future Mrs. Saget through the detestable (nice word), shallow, controlling ho.
(On another note, I almost thought they were going to write Ms. Smulders’ pregnancy into the show. Well played, writers. Well played.)
There was no sense of the backstory in this episode.
We know that Stella isn’t the mother. It was shown in an earlier episode what the kids would’ve looked like had she been the mother. So that wasn’t such a shocking reveal.
Barney hasn’t been sexually active for 16 years. It was revealed that he lost his virginity quite late.
The list with the 199 girls: Ted was allowed to see it, which means Robin could not have been on it. And she counts too.
Thanks to the phenomenon of identical twins, Sarah Chalke can play someone who only looks like Stella.
Barney may have started his attempts 16 years ago, but had not achieved success until quite late. (And he could be sexually active but still a virgin, depending on how you define “losing one’s virginity”). This would also explain his low batting average.
Ted already knows about Barney and Robin from that episode about the Bro code, so there’s no problem with Robin being on the list.
I need a chart of how much I love to fanwank. Or maybe I need a fanwank intervention?
Agreed. Stella ain’t the Mother. At least she’d *better *not be, dammit.
Ted will somehow meet the future Mrs. Ted as a result of running into Stella on the street.
I’m glad we’re all agreed. Fingers crossed for a twist next week. Maybe Yellow Umbrella Mother comes across the crosswalk while Stella and Ted are talking. I’m also holding out hope that its correct that we won’t meet Mother until the actual season finale so tonight’s reveal is just another red herring along the way. Whatsmore, I believe Ted had the Yellow Umbrella while he was going out with Stella and they never made a point of it until last night’s episode.
I would be thrilled if Stella were the mother. I love Sarah Chalke, and I like the character – despite the unfortunate outcome of their wedding day. However, I agree that showing what the children would have looked like if she were the mother would seem to rule her out.
Still, when they revealed Stella as the person behind the hand, I was happily shocked.
I agree that Stella is not the mother, but that reconnecting with her will lead him to her through a friend or sister of hers, or maybe some other random event that only occured because of running into Stella.
I thought the most interesting part of the episode was that the writers gave us what I see as a major shift in Barney’s character. They basically gave him a reason for all of his womanizing, he was trying to beat that kid from middle school to 200 scores. The very last scene before the credits, when it showed him sitting with his list and he goes “Two hundred… now what?” then he tears up the list and looks over at Robyn. I believe they’re telling us that Barney is going to try and be a one-woman guy now that he’s accomplished his goal of sleeping with 200 women before his nemesis.
He has “sexual activity” without having sex? I don’t buy it. Also there is nothing to indicate that he was hitting on a lot of girls before the whole hippie thing.
Along with seemingly everyone else, I hope that the mother isn’t Sarah Chalke, because I don’t see any chemistry there. I much prefer Robin, but they’ve apparently eliminated her. And if they do reveal the future mother, does that mean that Ted will be monogamous from now on? If so, I think the show would lose some of its appeal, particularly if they wind up being the sort of annoying couple who call each other cute names.
