Due to canceling cable and this not available on Hulu, I haven’t seen any of season 8 yet. But really? No.
I love this show, but no.
The only way for this shaggy dog timeline to work is if Ted meets the mother for a one night stand and the kids are twins whose mom dies in childbirth. Happy ending everyone!
Ted’s daughter is born in early 2015. So if a ninth season runs into early 2014, we have to see Ted and The Mother get together and get pregnant. From a storytelling standpoint, if they have to do a 9th season, I really hope Ted meets The Mother this year.
I really don’t care if we *ever *meet their mother. That’s not, to me, what the show is about, any more than epistolary novels are about the narrator or character who found the letters. It’s a conceit that allows us a known unreliable narrator for humor and otherwise it’s a sitcom about a group of friends, like many sitcoms.
Fuck. I’m sticking with the show this season because I want to meet the damned mother, but holy Mother of God, do the Marshall and Lily baby segments ever suck massive hairy balls!
My guess is he meets her at the end of this season, but we don’t actually see who it is until next season.
And when we do finally seer her she’ll be played by Lyndsy Fonseca (the actress who played Ted’s daughter).
^^^ That girl Lyndsy is the only reason why I watched this show when it first started because she played my most favorite character on The Young & The Restless, but to me this show was so boring that I couldn’t even get through its first season which makes me wonder how it has lasted for as long as it has.
God bless you and Lyndsy always!!!
Holly
P.S. I don’t watch The Young & The Restless anymore either. Lyndsy’s character was killed off and her heart was given to Victor Newman.
I have no cable and slow internet so I watch broadcast TV and rent DVDs. I have liked this show less and less and the rest of the CBS Monday night line up is horrible. They should have let HIMYM die at the end of this season.
If it doesn’t make me want to punch myself in the face, as many of this season’s episodes have, then I don’t mind too much. I really think though the last season should be about meeting her, getting to know her, time skipping to wedding planning and the babies.
I can’t take another season of Ted moping around.
I don’t mind being faked out for a bit, but only an episode or two. I think a good way to keep the mystery going a little more for the audience is for Ted to meet a bunch of women at the wedding (including Barney’s sister and Robin’s other bandmate, the most popular guesses amongst fans). The kids will know who she is, but the audience won’t.
I love this show but ENOUGH ALREADY. Ted needs to meet the mother and put the storyline out of its misery.
As a huge fan of this show, someone who honestly thinks it is the closest thing to Seinfeld since Seinfeld (and there are so many blatant Seinfeld references/homages its not even funny), I am disappointed they aren’t ending it this season. I will watch… but season 8 has really not been that good so far.
the season 9 promo is out, and reflects some of the sentiments in this thread.
“Kids, listen up. This the story of every woman I’ve ever snogged…”
Yeah… that’s not the story Ted is telling. Well it is, but then it goes into far dirtier places.
Oh thank goodness, I thought HIMYM got renewed for a further season beyond the upcoming one. Love the show, but ready for it to end this spring!
