How many Canadian provinces and US states have you been?

  1. NJ
  2. NY
  3. Illinois, Mainly Great Lakes at the Navy Bases but nearly a months worth of business trips also.
  4. California, mainly San Diego/Coronado Island/San Ysidro (Navy), but Business trips and conferences also.
  5. Florida, many vacations all over the state. But also business trips.
  6. Mass, just barely. It took about 7 User Conferences of 4-5 days each to get over a month. Also a wedding in the Springfield area for 2 more days. Also a college tour and a weekend for Yankees @ Boston. OK, I made it over 30 easier than I though.
  7. Louisiana, all New Orleans. Mostly vacations visiting my BIL.
  8. Pennsylvania, 1-3 days in many short trips over most of my life starting with High School Chess Championships in Philly.

Ohio is close but just under I think. Over 20 but under 30 days.
Connecticut is close to 20 days in all.
West Virginia is around 15 days.
Maryland & Virginia are over 10 days.

Far too much time in International waters in the Pacific & Indian Oceans.

NY, VA, GA, MD, MA, KS, MO, OK, CA for sure. TX and FL probably.

ON and NS in Canada.

14 US states, 1 province and 1 territory. I have flown over other states to get to Illinois, Wisconsin and Texas.

Living on the Prairies / Great Plains engenders a taste for abstract art: lines and colours.

I was once driving in North Dakota with a buddy from Ontario who had never been on the prairies. He noticed a very heavily fenced area with very big “Do Not Enter” signs and asked me what it was.

“Nuclear silos” I said.

“No really,” he said. “What are they?”

"Nuclear silos,” I repeated. “Do not slow down. Do not speed up. Just keep driving.”

“Oh” he said, suddenly realising that he was in a prime target area in the case of nuclear war.

I’ve visited 49 US states (all except Hawaii) and Ontario. (Also the District of Columbia.)

When I was growing up, my dad was in the US Navy. We were stationed with him in some states (including Alaska), and passed through other states as he changed stations (every year or two).

As an adult I finished up the rest of the states. Some of them I visited just briefly; I count them if I spent money there.

In 1974, I passed through western Ontario from Thunder Bay (on Lake Superior) to Fort Frances / International Falls. In 1995, I passed through eastern Ontario from Michigan to New York.

10/10 provinces but none of the territories. 44 states plus D.C., but not any other non-state territory.

Statewise I am only missing Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Replying to my own post just to add that I have been a tourist in a lot of countries, but almost never in the US.

I would really like to change that, in particular because I love big nature.

I’ve been to four Canadian provinces and 29 states, by the OP’s criteria.

US: ME, NY, VT, MA, CT, NY, PA, NJ, MD, DE, DC, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, IL, CA, HI, NV
Canada: NB, PQ, ON

In my case that would be BC, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and no states.

All US States (including DC) except Mississippi and Alabama.

Canadian provinces/territories: BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland (and Labrador but only the island.)

Places I’ve been at least a month, that’s a much smaller list:

Quebec, Pennsylvania, California. That’s it.

I’ve been to 45 states (missing are Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Hawaii) and in Canada I’ve been to BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Probable a few of my 45 states wouldn’t meet your 24 hour requirement, but my criteria is boots on the ground. I think I’d have to drop Mississippi, New Mexico, and North Dakota from the list.

I’m hurt.

Call me when you hit Vancouver!

US states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Plus Nevada if you count changing planes without leaving the airport.

Canadian provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec. Plus Saskatchewan if you count going through on the train without stopping.

Hurt how Northern Piper ?

And you’ve been in territories no less.

Very few. I grew up in Toronto but have spent most of my adult life in the Czech Republic.

In Canada I have been around Ontario and multiple times to Quebec. I was once marginally in New Brunswick, at the Moncton airport during a layover.

As for the USA, I have only been to Lansing, Michigan and Niagara Falls, New York.

I’ve been to 6 Canadian provinces and every state in the USA save Mississippi, Florida and Hawaii. That’s boots on the ground, either buy something or piss on something outside of a travel junction/terminus.

I just realised I forgot one US state:

My US states are California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota , Vermont and Washington.
