How many Central Pennsylvanians do we have on this board?

Nope, I’m a junior. And it was all melted after I made it back from spring break, when I went back to my beloved desert and got rained on all week while it was in the 60s and 70s in Huntingdon. Yes, I’m bitter.

I just keep getting centraler…er, more central…

Born & raised in the Reading area, my family moved a few years ago to the Pottsville area, and I am right now sitting in an apartment at the grand old institution called Penn State.

I grew up just north of Gettysburg and went to college near Harrisburg, but you’d have to stretch your definition of central, and for that matter, Pennsylvania, to count me at the moment. I had no idea so many Dopers live in South Central PA.

If you get together at Gettysburg, just make sure it isn’t in early July, specifically July 1-3 (the anniversary of the battle). You’ll be engaged by armies of tourists.

I am from Reading, but live in Virginia now and never plan on going back. Virginia is a really nice state. Of course I always come home to visit since ALL of my family is there.

Does York Count? If so, count me in.

Born and lived the first 27 years of my life in Johnstown. 'Fraid I won’t be able to make any Central PA Dopefests, though. Sorry.

I’ll speak for UndeadCleopatra and myself from Shippensburg. But you knew that already.

You live in York? Geez, I was just there over Easter weekend visiting my folks!

Not me, but my inlaws. She’s from State College (her father was a professor in Middle English) and he’s from Bellwood. They met at the University.

Bellwood? That’s a stone’s throw from Altoona (my hometown). Wouldn’t that be something if I knew your in-laws?

I grew up closer to Philadelphia (Willow Grove) but I went to Pitt- Johnstown for 2 years before transfering to the main campus to finish up. Does that count? I live a long way from there now.

I was born (a long time ago) in Lock Haven, if anyone knows where that is. Now I live a thousand miles south of Laredo, Tx. so I probably won´t make it to any Dopefests.
Sometimes I visit my sister and family who spend the summer in Eagle´s Mere, and I bet even fewer people know where that is than can place Lock Haven.

Hey Gyrate, I’m from Womelsdorf, way out in the sticks, but I’m hoping to move to PSU-University Park at some point. Good to see other (at least former) Berks dopers here. Can’t blame you for leaving though.

Born & raised in the rural Perry County, which is well known for having invented the toothbrush (if it were invented anywhere else they’d have called it the teethbrush).

Since then I’ve lived in Palmyra, Indiana PA, and finally settled in the bustling metropolis of Harrisburg.

If I spent too much time in a different place I start to ache to see the rolling green hills on the horizon.

OMG. This is how I am about the mountains! Born and raised in Altoona, I find that I have to go back every couple of months (aside from family considerations) just to see the Alleghenies again.

When I lived in Minnesota I almost started to get agoraphobic because of the flatness…

I’m not from central PA, but my dad was born in Centre County and went to Penn State (or is it State Pen?).

Absolutely. It’s bizarre to watch flatlanders walk around outside and not realize that something is missing.

Conversely, when I saw the rocky mountains for the first time, I was a bit intimidated. Until another relative from central PA pointed out – our mountains are just more mature than theirs are.

I suppose I sound like a snob. Que sera sera. :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh. I use that argument, too. The Appalachians are old and mature, not like those arriviste Rockies…

Well, obviously, if you check my location, I’m not in PA at all. But we’re a lot closer to Altoona than to Baltimore. If y’all get something together, I’ll keep a check, and we might be in.

Norine, check out this thread. We have a PennDope all set up!
