How many cigarettes do you smoke a day?

When I was twelve Skip, a twenty-something friend of our family who was pretty much a well known hard-ass told me," If you ever smoke a cigarette I will kick your ass. Even if I have to come back from the grave to do it."

He was murdered the following year.

When I was 26 and drinking heavily with friend I borrowed a cigarette and smoked it to see if he would show up.

He didn’t.

I was so traumatized by the fact that my friend didn’t show up all moldy, bloody and with a large shotgun hole in his stomach, that I never smoked again.

True story.

Zero.

I quit cold turkey about 27 years ago, and then would have the occasional one while out at a bar. But I haven’t had the urge to do that in about 15 years.

None. I tried to smoke once, because I wasn’t “fitting in” at the first place I worked after college, and everyone else smoked so I thought it would at least be something we had in common. I bought a pack and tried to smoke one. I absolutely hated it and snubbed it out after a few minutes. I couldn’t understand how anyone would voluntarily do that, and frankly still don’t.

None. I find it takes the amazement out of life.

About 0.0017. I’m 47 and I’ve smoked about 30 fags in my life. I grew up around smokers… most all my family and friends puffed, but i never took a shine to it.

That being said, i do love the smell of tobacco. I even miss that smoky bar smell. I was travelling through Memphis last year and there’s a bar in the airport that has a smoking section. I thought it smelled heavenly. Small doses and all, of course.

None. Unless second hand smoke is included or you count smoke from sources other than cigarettes (solder/plastic/electronics fumes anyone?). That is, I spent most of my life with a mother who smoked up to a few years ago (she has since quit, mainly because I bugged her about it and she thought cigarette taxes were getting exorbitant, although she has been hooked on Nicorette gum ever since, I guess not so bad though).

Pack and a half to two per day - depends on a lot of different things.

About a dozen. Hard to say for sure; I carry loose tobacco & papers and roll my own so the size is not consistent. But a 0.4 oz. pack of Top® lasts about 3 days and out of the 40 papers / pack there are usually a few left over when the tobacco runs out.
SS

Zero on 95% of days. Anywhere between 1 and 15 on the other 5%.

Between 7-10 per day. Always in private.

Tobacco cigarettes? Zero.

Zero now, but I smoked a pack a day for better than 30 years. I watched my dad die of cancer and still smoked. Pictures of rotting lungs and cachectic cancer victims did nothing to dissuade me. I dunno why I suddenly decided to quit 5 years ago, but it is my one and only measurable accomplishment in life.

About half a pack.

Zero.

How does one actually smoke three packs a day. Let’s ignore cost for a second. That’s 60 cigarettes and 5 dedicated hours of smoking a day, at a minimum.

None, or essentially none. I smoked for a couple years in college and quit, and every once in a blue moon I bum one off a friend. I haven’t done that in 6 years or so though.

Back when I smoked, 10-12 a day, if I went out to a bar I’d finish the pack.

Depending on where you’re smoking, it isn’t all that hard. I know when I’m working at home I smoke twice or more as much as usual - but it isn’t technically smoking - it’s me lighting one, setting it in the ashtray, getting distracted, and when I go back, it’s almost down to the filter. So you light another one, get distracted, etc. My husband does that too when he’s doinking around in the garage. Light one - set it ashtray, proceed to get distracted, go back to find no cigarette left, light another, etc.

Zero.

Used to smoke 1/2 a pack a day. Quit January 21, 2011. Since then I haven’t had any.

Congrats to all the other quitters!
