How many people is Trump trying to kill with inane suggestions?

Latest one:

Inject some disinfectant, or shine super-bright UV into your lungs.

Remember those people who drank fish tank disinfectant that had chloroquine in it?

:smack:

Injecting people with disinfectant or washing out body cavities with it was done in the pre-antibiotic era. We don’t have to do that now.

This guy just keeps getting dumber and dumber by the day.

Since the purpose of this is to ridicule Trump, it belongs in the Pit.

Without verging into political territory, I’ll just say that it is fundamentally clear that people should not be listening to Donald Trump regarding medical treatment, the epidemiology of determining when to lift isolation measures, or anything else about this epidemic. It is hard to imagine someone carrying the burden of responsibility that the office of the President of the United States not seeking and amplifying the recommendations of the CDC and NIAID, but Trump has made it clear that he believes his hunches about how the epidemic will play out and the treatments to apply without trials to be superior to the most experienced and knowledgable people who have spent their careers studying and fighting infectious disease, even when those hunches are at odds with all available evidence and medical science.

I sincerely hope that no one, including his devoted followers, attempts to follow his guidance.

Stranger

Oh, well in that case, I think Trump is just trying to kill off his son Eric, and everyone else who follows along is just collateral damage, but his plan backfired because the virus finds the entire Trump genome to repugnant to infest.

Trump isn’t even smart enough to follow the guidance of Dr. Fauci, et al, and then just blame them if the epidemic goes worse than predicted; instead, like the malevolent infantile narcissist he is, he has to make absolutely worthless suggestions, parade them around as if they’re something to be proud of, and then deny having said them three days later when they are revealed to be bullshit as if the technologies of recording and streaming video do not exist.

Trump is like Anthony Fremont from the Twilight Zone episode “It’s a Good Life”, except he doesn’t seem to realize that he lacks the ability to literally send people into the cornfield or create horrible creatures using his “a brain”. He may literally be the dumbest person to ever hold public office, and I don’t just mean the office of President. The only problem is, an entire political party is enthralled with his useful idiocy even though he is succeeding in dragging them down into the swamp he was supposedly draining. One just hopes that Mitch McConnell is the first to get caught in his undertow.

Stranger

I’m failing to see how that jackass’s idiocy is now, ever has been, or ever will be useful.

Well, he nominated Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, which earned the approval of rapey frat bros everywhere. As a practical matter he hasn’t actually done much to advance the neoconservative Republican cause, and frankly Obama was such a good bogeyman for the NRA it is surprising they didn’t campaign to bring him back once gun sales tanked after Trump was elected, but that has about as much to do with the bullshit neocon agenda that started with Lee Atwater and hit its apex with Newt Gingrich and his “Contract With [On] America” as Trump University (“Not a university”) had with making money selling real estate.

Trump’s real legacy is in service of himself and his creditors, and has been as successful as you would expect from a businessman who sold steaks through Sharper Image stores and ran multiple oceanfront casinos into bankruptcy.

Stranger

Silly. Everyone knows that eating TidePods cures the 'Rona.

Repeating a comment I made in another thread…

As much as I hate Trump, I don’t think he’s actually trying to kill anyone. I think it’s a combination othings: he acutally is dumb enough to buy into the conspiracy shit like this, and that, like anyone who does that, thinks that’s him being smarter than everyone else. And his narcissism means he has to tell people how smart he is by rattling off that stuff. His ego makes it where he must believe that he is responsible for something about stopping this virus, so he jumps on anything.

This is why the chloroquinine. It’s why he defunded the WHO. And it’s why he’s pushing full on quack treatments. Stupidity plus ego.

Trump only wants people to die who say mean things about him. Otherwise, it’s just that he’s indifferent about people dying.

And people thought spelling potato wrong was bad. Almost seems quaint

Antibiotics cannot kill viruses because viruses have different structures and replicate in a different way than bacteria.
Antibiotics work by targeting the growth machinery in bacteria (not viruses) to kill or inhibit those particular bacteria.
When you think about it structurally, it makes sense that an antibiotic could not work to kill a virus with a completely different set of replicating “machinery”.

As do you!

Will bleach kill the coronavirus? EPA recommends these disinfectants

Effects of Chlorine on Swimmers

Bleach Vs. Chlorine in a Pool

Trump is merely suggesting alternative treatments that should be considered by researchers and is not trying to kill people. Trump is just thinking outside of the box.

How pathetic your life must be that you don’t have anything better to do than troll a message board? Are you that much of a loser?

Silence! Imbecile.

He’s definitely outside the box, but he is not thinking. He’s grabbing at straws using the reasoning of a 10-year-old.

I agree Trump is not trying to kill people. He doesn’t know or care that people may die following his advice, as they have with hydroxychloroquinine.

I suggest you not try this, but if you honestly believe Trump’s idea has any merit, spend an hour breathing bleach fumes in a tightly enclosed space. The certain outcome is irritation, pain, and tissue damage, which again is why I suggest you just take my word for it.

Likewise with injecting any sort of disinfectant into your body. Anyone with any education understands that disinfectants kill living cells indiscriminately. That’s why they’re designed for cleaning exterior surfaces. That’s why no medical scientist has ever suggested ingesting it, but many hospitals have treated unfortunate souls who accidentally did so.

You’re a moron for entertaining this stupidity even as a thought exercise.

I agree. The dotard is not trying to kill people. Since the sun shines out of his ass he’s simply trying to share his own immunity.

Trump couldn’t outsmart a box. If he’s thinking outside one, it’s because he can’t figure out how to open it.

Well, I’m just there to gaze in awestruck wonder at his breathtaking stupidity, but whatever.

This ‘interpretation’ of his words is truly wonderful.

I just posted this in another thread:

Much as I hate defending our Fearless Leader, I have to point out that he never actually literally suggested injecting bleach into yourself to kill the coronavirus. he DID say something incredibly stupid – I wouldn’t take that away from him. But not THAT stupid.

If you look at the transcript from the April 23 news conference, you have Trump introducing William N. Bryan, leader of the Science and Technology Directorate at the Department of Homeland Security, who talked about recent findings about fighting the virus:

Quote:
If you look at the fourth line, you inject summer – the sunlight into that. You inject UV rays into that. The same effects on line two – as 70 to 35 degrees with 80 percent humidity on the surface. And look at line four, but now you INJECT the sun. The half-life goes from six hours to two minutes. That’s how much of an impact UV rays has on the virus.

We’re also testing disinfectants readily available. We’ve tested bleach, we’ve tested isopropyl alcohol on the virus, specifically in saliva or in respiratory fluids. And I can tell you that bleach will kill the virus in five minutes; isopropyl alcohol will kill the virus in 30 seconds, and that’s with no manipulation, no rubbing – just spraying it on and letting it go. You rub it and it goes away even faster. We’re also looking at other disinfectants, specifically looking at the COVID-19 virus in saliva.
(My Bolding) He unfortunately used that word “Inject”, just as an energetic term for “use”.

After he speaks,Trump takes over. He’s clearlyy absorbed the idea of ultraviolet light killing the virus, and of disinfectants like isopropyl alcohol being effective, and he remembered the idea of “injection”, and comes up with this:

Quote:
Thank you very much. So I asked Bill a question that probably some of you are thinking of, if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous – whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light – and I think you said that that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that too. It sounds interesting.

Right. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds – it sounds interesting to me.

So we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute, that’s – that’s pretty powerful.
He didn’t literally say to inject disifectants, specifically bleach.

Og knows how he’d inject ultraviolet light into the body. Maybe he saw the Underworld movies and thinks UV Bullets exist.
https://underworld.fandom.com/wiki/U...let_Ammunition
I have to agree that the idea of ultraviolet killing the virus IS pretty powerful – heck, it’s my present business. Light (not just UV, although that’s the most powerful range) kills micro-organisms by a number of mechanisms, something that has been known for well over a century. But, aside from some limited applications with angioplasty and fiberoptics, I don’t know of anyone who’s suggesting injecting UV light into the body. Or bleach.

One of the reporters explicitly verbalized this, putting it in the negative:

Quote:
But I – just, can I ask about – the President mentioned the idea of cleaners, like bleach and isopropyl alcohol you mentioned. There’s no scenario that that could be injected into a person, is there? I mean
To which Trump, cutting off Bryan, said:

Quote:
It wouldn’t be through injection. We’re talking about through almost a cleaning, sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work. But it certainly has a big effect if it’s on a stationary object.
So Trump explicitly denied that anyone would be injecting bleach into the body.

Of course, as we’ve seen, what he says at one moment can be contradicted the next. But he hasn’t suggested putting bleach into anyone’s veins. Yet.
