How Much Coffee Do You Drink Daily?

2-3 big azz mugs

I don’t drink as much since my son moved out–when he was home for 6 months or so, we really were like a couple of addicts. Every time one of us walked in a room, the first thing we said was, “Hey, want some coffee?” and of course no one ever said no. I probably drank 8 big cups a day or so then.
Now, though, with no one to enable me, I usually drink 2 cups worth in the morning on my way to a client’s. If I’m home for the day, I drink more–when I get bored, etc…time for coffee!
I like to try different types of coffee from a local health food store, too, so if I have new, untested coffee in the kitchen, all bets are off.

When I’m working, I drink somewhere between half a liter and a liter. I fill my thermos (approximately 1/2 liter) at home with my decent coffee, and sometimes I’ll finish it and actually then fill it the rest of the way with the institutional coffee at work, and sometimes I finish that. At home, I generally drink just pop and water.

Maybe a cup every three to four months. I like coffee okay, but I very rarely seek it out.

About 4 cups in the AM on average. Rarely after noon.

These years: Maybe 3 cups a day. Twenty years ago: All of it.

Usually about 6 cups per day. I quit for several years once, but I went back to it. I like my coffee, always have.

None for me. I’m not a coffee drinker and don’t like the smell of it but it hardly offends me.

When I was a kid, I would have Coke and Mountain Dew all of the time. Probably a six pack on the weekends? Maybe more when I was in college, although by then it was diet coke.

However, I’m one of the “other” programmers that gave up caffeine when I started programming professionally. I have had caffeine since but not regularly, as in less than once a year in the past sixteen, and usually from a diet coke.

Although, reading the Cracked article on caffeine, maybe I should go back to it. . .

none

Not a bit! That shit tastes like roasted dirt.

And I work nights.

I brew 8 cups every morning (wimpy coffeemaker cups). My wife drinks a mug from it, and I drink a mug from it. Then I pour the rest into a small thermos and drink it for the rest of the day.

I fill a Thermos for work (~3 mugs) and drink about 4 mugs at home. Decaf.

I’ve just ordered another 8 pounds of Dark Roast from Community Coffee. Free shipping and it’s 20% off now! There’s probably just enough left in my bin to last until it gets here. Of course, there’s always the big can of Trader Joe’s French Roast to tide me over just in case.

2 cups average.

Mirror lives. I do exactly the same with my wife. We have a ten cup pot, but only make eight cups. The thermos saves me from the nasty brew they make at work. We use two level scoops of grounds for 8 cups at home. A little weaker than restaurant coffee, but we like it.

None. I never learned to like it.

One 16-oz mug at home, before work, or after being up for while on my days off. Definitely addicted, so I have a mug every day to avoid the headache. I’ve weaned off it before, but always go back to it, I like it too much and always re-addict myself anyway.

Yeah, coffee went from “Bitter Swill” to “Necessary Evil” to “Comfort Food” pretty quickly for me, too.
By the way, I’ve done a lot or reading on caffeine, and most of the research says it’s Mostly Really Good Stuff.

In the “Adderal” thread in GQ, someone said: “Do yourself a favor and get yourself more sleep, use coffee and stay away from the drugs”.

And my response was pretty pro-coffee (and answered the OP’s question):

I lived in the coffeemaker pot at work, but since I’ve retired (2005), my consumption went WAAAY down. I’d kill a 12-cup pot in the morning, and love every drop.

Then I developed a sore boob. I’m past the age of monthly sore boobs, and since breast cancer runs in my family, I ran to the doctor. Mammogram, ultrasound, and I was given a “Get out of Jail Free” card in that no suspicious findings were discovered. Doc told me to cut back on the coffee. Sob! I reduced my intake to half a pot in the AM, and the pain is gone.

But they’ll have to pry the coffeecup out of my cold, dead fingers…
