The thread on men noticing the aftermath of a $90 trip to the hairdresser (link) made me think, “$90?! I don’t think I spend that much on my hair in a YEAR!”
I don’t keep track of this, but my yearly hair expenditures are probably around that much.
Haircuts, 4x $15 (that’s with the tip) = $60
A couple bottles of shampoo and conditioner. $20? Maybe? I don’t know how much this costs actually. I don’t get anything fancy.
Hair goo, to make my unstylish locks stay in place. $10?
Total = ~$90.
How about you?
Oh, I’m male, mid-20s, and very much single, in case anyone was wondering.
Two or three haircuts per year (I tend to wait until my hair is so long I can’t stand it anymore): $30 - $45 (including tip)
Shampoo with conditioner, two or three bottles: $12 - $18
Hmmm. About $600. It’s one hundred every 8 weeks to color my hair-that’s about 6 times a year.
I buy grocery store shampoo, so that’s maybe another $50.
I used to color it myself at home-and it never looked as good. I enoy the pampering I get at the salon–it’s one of my few indulgences. (it has to be-it costs so much!).
Less than five dollars. One bottle of shampoo will last me a whole year, and I’ve cut my own hair for the past couple of years. I’ll probably get at least one real haircut this year though, so my hair expenses will skyrocket into the double digit range.
I get my hair cut every 3 or 4 months, and avoid paying more than $30 if I can. (3 x 30 = $90)
I henna my hair on whims, and used to do it about every three months. Now that it’s harder to find good henna in a brick and mortar store, I try a new store henna formulation every six months. Probably costs me about $10. (2 x $10 =$20)
I buy whatever shampoo happens to interest me, and probably spend less than $20 on it per year. I’ll go with $20, though, to make things easy.
I occasionally buy hot oil, which, at $4.79/bottle for an 8 treatment bottle of Queen Helene, I probably only buy three bottles per year. Rounded up for convenience. (3 x $5 =$15)
Total: $145, but I’ve got amazingly nice hair.
I’ll be 24 in a couple of weeks, my hair is layered (but the longest part hits below the collarbones) and relatively straight. Oh, and I’m female.
I bought a good electric clipper a few years ago, and I pretty much just buzz it down to an inch or a half inch every month or so.
I did this at first to save money, but now I notice that it also saves me time as well, in addition to not having to make chit-chat with a stranger for a half hour once a month.
For calendar year 2006 for this single female? $148.23. That’s a couple of haircuts (good hairdresser AND she’s my bf’s daughter) and the usual shampoo/conditioner/curling products (from drugstore, usually). If I actually get my hair cut as often as I ought to, 2007 will come in higher.
Trip to Costco for shampoo, about $10 for two huge bottles. Lasts me at least a year, probably more.
Every two weeks or so take my clippers to it with 1/4" guide. Periodically shave back of neck in shower (not hard to get it even with a little practice) so stays neat.
Shampoo and conditioner… I don’t know, maybe thirty dollars a year (Australian dollars, mind). That’s the extent of it - my girlfriend trimmed it for me a little while ago because it was getting a few split ends, what with going four years without a trim, but I don’t pay to get it cut these days. So yeah, the grand total is thirty dollars.
And… male, early twenties, not single, hair a bit past shoulders.
The really big bottles of Pantene shampoo and conditioner, one of each about every two months at $6 each = $72
One bottle of Pantene clarifying shampoo = $6
Three tubes of Pantene deep conditioner at $6 each = $18
Two bottles of anti-frizz serum at $8 each = $16
Four haircuts, three of them at about $40 (including tip) and one at–wait for the nasties to start hyperventilating–$160 (that’s at Vidal Sassoon) total $280
$392. Once upon a time there was the cost of hair dryer, combs, and brushes, but that time is past.
6 haircuts a year @ $12 each- I’d like to get it cut less but then I look like Bozo the Clown.
I just opened a new bottle of shampoo today, cheap stuff Suave $.79. I think my last bottle of shampoo lasted literally more than 3 years, between not having much hair to wash & taking the complimentary little bottles from motels.
Heh. I opened that thread but couldn’t offer an opinion because I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of spending $90 for a cut and coloring
It would kill my mother to hear me say this (since she likes cheap shampoos) but probably $75-100 a year on various shampoos, conditioners and so forth.
My hair is really short so I have to get it cut about once every month or else it gets too long to style the way I want. Each haircut is $15 plus $3 tip so $18x12= $216. I have no idea how much is spent on shampoo, I just get the .99 cent bottles whenever it runs out, probably like 2 or 3 times I guess. The styling wax I use is normally around $12 though it was just on sale for $4.99 and another brand I bought was $24. So I guess around $300 total per year? If I ever dye it I do it myself which would be less than $5.
