I’m wondering how several people claim to not see they have waiting PMs.
In the upper right of every single page view is the section that says:
In that section when you have a PM it changes with a pretty obvious bolded message saying you have new messages.
Just in the course of loading a page or two I’ll notice it there.
To be sure if somebody only uses Tapatalk on their phone they’d never know. But I’ bet that’s a huge minority of our heavy users.

I get PMs semi-frequently from dopers I’ve met in real life and occasionally I get PMs asking about Ireland and/or to meet up.
A few hundred, plus another few hundred that I had to delete because my PM box was filling up. Most relate to discussions on race and racism that I’ve taken part in – I’d estimate about 3/4s in support of something I posted, and 1/4 had some sort of disagreement they wanted to take ‘offline’ (including multiple instances of “I swear I’m not racist!” or equivalent). In addition, I occasionally receive random (and very nice!) compliments on other issues. And occasional interest in my novels, which is also nice.
In general I enjoy it, even when people disagree with me – arguing is fun!
About once a year. I don’t send any to anyone else, either. Somebody said Welcome Back after a prolonged absence.
9 PMs in my inbox. Mostly from Charlie Wayne (highly recommended as a pen pal).
That was me, I think.
If I notice that a poster’s been away for a while and then comes back, I often send a welcome back PM.
I want to say a lot, but I guess when you look at it, it’s not that many. It just feels like it because my inbox is always full. It was nice to have the PM space increased, but my inbox filled up again soon after that.
I haven’t received a message in a while, though. I guess people are slowly coming to hate me. What took them so long?
I had a stalker from the SDMB. This person sent roughly 300 +/- pm’s. They also figured out on a lark, my personal email address, resulting in me having to change it. Most of it was innocuous BS. Even the pictures they would send over were only mildly NSFW. This was over 10 years ago, and the user never posted here. I guess they eventually got bored, cause I haven’t heard from them since about 2005.
Other than that, maybe a couple of PM’s a year from people wanting side conversations from existing threads.

Did you really think this was the only internet forum I’ve ever been to? Is this the only one you ever visit? If you get PM’s of insightful discussions then fantastic but that’s not always the case and never the case for me. So again, I hope I never get any here, doubt I would bother reading them anyway.
Well, everybody else in this forum says otherwise. But you could be right about the hypothetical PMs you would receive.
Without actually looking, I’d say probably three or four since 2003.
