How often do you brush your teeth?

Ok I’m hope through the anonymity of the Inet we’ll get some honest answers here. Myself I only brush my teeth once a day; I make it the last thing I do before I goto bed; granted when I do brush my teeth I go the whole nine yards, i.e. floss, mouthwash, Electric toothbrush, everything.
Now my wife says this is not enough and yeah, I know the dentist says you should brush after every meal; but I’m a busy man and I don’t have time to brush my teeth every five secs. And I’m betting thats pretty much the case with the majority of people. Especialy those of us who work outside the home.

So how about it folks how often do you brush?
[sub]BTW I always get staight A’s when I goto the dentist and I haven’t had a cavity since before I was a teenager![/sub]

Whenever I get up in the morning and whenever I go to bed.

Ok, after I recently had root canals #4 and #5, I am making a serious effort to change my dental hygiene habits. Currently, I brush in the morning even though I don’t eat breakfast, after lunch at work and before bed at night.

Flossing? I’m at about every other day, but I’m working on improving that too. I’m really not into the $3000 worth of dental work every other year.

i try to brush twice a day, morning 20 mins after breakfast, and last thing at night.

it’s important to wait 20 minutes after breakfast because you need to give your saliva time to reduce alot of the sugar coating your teeth, otherwise the toothbrush will push the sugar into the tiny holes in your teeth and this is bad.

also, brushing before you go to bed is the most important time.

Twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. You can’t tell though as my damn teeth are a lovely shade of yellow anyway. I really should cut back on the tea. Or invest in some of those whitening strips.

I brush my teeth when I wake up - I’m usually too sleepy at night. I’ll also brush my teeth if they just feel icky/hairy/weird.

There was a time when I didn’t brush my teeth as often as I should. During that time, I’d usually be good for at leats 3 cavities a year. I have so many fillings in my teeth that when I float on my back in a pool, my head points north.

About 7 years ago, I started my new oral care regimen. Every morning and every night, I’d rinse with peroxide, brush my teeth, then rinse with Listerine. At least two other times during the day, I’d brush and rinse with Listerine. I also make sure I brush my tongue and gums.

I have not had a cavity in seven years. I was also told that my gums are very healthy, and the only way my teeth will fall out is if “someone smacks me in the mouth with a 2x4”. Yes, that was a direct quote from my dentist.

Be true to your teeth or they’ll be false to you.

After I awake, and before I get into bed. Plus, occasionally in the afternoon after lunch. And if I get home and my mouth just feels yucky, then I will brush once earlier in the evening. I am big oral hygiene kind of guy.
And I typically get to assist at least one of the Olethlings[sup]TM[/sup] in their dental hygenical activities.

Brush directly after breakfast, Trident after lunch, brush as soon as I get home from work, again after dinner and then right before I go to bed.

Floss every other day and whenever I feel the need.

Pre-rinse with Plax[sup]TM[/sup] before bedtime brush, after-all rinse with Listerine[sup]TM[/sup] then, too.

Further, I always have sugar-free gum with me for those times I am not near home and can’t brush. It’s just one of those things.

After breakfast, after lunch or a sweet snack and before I go to bed. I have this cool new tooth paste that is called “Pearls & Dents”. It has microscopic balls in it that clean really well. So I look forward to brushing my teeth and whitening them. I think this toothpaste is available in Germany only. But it´s $5, so I won´t buy it all the time.

I used to brush and floss religiously and I always had cavaties. Now I brush every morning and every night before bed and floss about once a week. I believe that bad teeth are hereditary and you can brush and floss 10 times a day and you’re still going to get that cavity! My daughter had two cavities at the age of two! All the brushing and flossing in the world wouldn’t have prevented those. Now we brush each morning and we brush and floss each night before bed. My son brushes his teeth every time he goes in the bathroom… about 10 times a day! He’s only 2 so basically he sucks the toothpaste off the brush and then puts it away. I have to brush his teeth myself each morning and evening to make sure they get done properly!

whats “brushing your teeth”?
how about a big old kiss?

Twice a day is normal for me. Morning & Night. However, some nights I don’t. It’s my way of being rebellious. I have PLAX and Listerine and I use those occasionally when I’m feeling like being a dental goody-goody.

Some days my teeth feel gross after a meal, and I brush in the middle of the day.

I brush as soon as I get up in the a.m. Apparently it’s better to brush after breakfast, as Niobium Knight has said, and that’s what my husband does. But it means we can’t have a good goodbye kiss when I leave for work, because he still has wolf breath.

Always after breakfast and before bed. I usually rinse before bed, too. I brush sometimes after lunch, and whenever my mouth just feels funky. I brush and rinse about 20 times a day, the day after I smoke a cigar.

Mornings after my orange juice.

Honestly, I brush about once a month. I was raised to brush twice a day but I still got lots of cavities (mostly from not flossing). Mid high school I stopped brushing regularly, and the dentist didn’t notice much other than the sensitivity of my gums. I had outgrown my cavity stage and realized that as long as I flossed once in a while my teeth were fine. I do remove plaque with my fingernails while driving or lying in bed, which probably helps the health of my teeth. Gingivitis is the only mouth thing I worry about, so I sometimes brush with a “dry” toothbrush (no paste) to stimulate my gums.

My mouth doesn’t smell any worse than anyone else’s I’ve smelled. I get frustrated when people look down on others for not buying into commercial, excessive hygiene propaganda. I do use deodorant because my pits stink, but I don’t use soap when I shower (just shampoo on my hair and the stinky parts) and I’m plenty healthy.

Anyone else out there not brush regularly? I’d love to find out that others are on the same page.

Well, I have sort of a “clean teeth” issue, so I brush about7 or 8 times a day - basically, whenever I think about my teeth - like now, for instance.

I floss quite a bit as well - 2 or 3 times a day. (morning, after lunch - maybe after dinner).

interestingly, I hardly ever go to the dentist, but when I do, the cleanings take about 20 minutes and the technician is always amazed.

My gums are being to receed a tad though, so I’m going to have to cut down.

You and me both, whatmove. It all seems terribly overhyped to me.

If I remember and have time, once, after breakfast.

And before dentist appointments.

I don’t floss either. Just put some Crest onto the brush, rub it around for about 45 seconds, and spit it out.

I might now and then, after lunch, take a toothbrush with toothpaste and use it to scrape off any visible plaque, but that’s all…

And strangely, I have never gotten a single cavity. The only time a dentist has been annoyed with my dental situation is when I forgot to brush right before the appointment.

I brush in the morning while I’m in the shower. I chew that toothpaste gum sometimes during the day. I brush before bed if I feel icky or have an especially bad taste in my mouth.
