No - what kind? Chocolate chip? Oatmeal? Snickerdoodles? Ya gotta be specific!!
I’m clean and clad and I think I’ll go get my coif shortened.

Why does no one make oatmeal chocolate chip?!
Good morning everyone. It was 75ºF and humid again this morning. Welcome to the south - it’s a wet heat. The sunrise was kinda “meh” this morning. It started off promising, with some nice red patches, but by the time I got to the top of the hill, it just petered out. So instead, I’ll show off the new color on my toes. (and a little bit of fluff on the floor.)
I have been “practicing” with my new hair. I think one of the main reasons it it really presses that euphoria button is that the color nearly matches my natural color, so it feels more like my own. I also picked up one of those grippy wig caps, and I no longer feel it sliding around. I can even brush it without holding on to a section to keep it from sliding. Eventually, the novelty will wear off, but not today.
“You can’t kill a ficus.” Challenge accepted!
“Why is the aloe blue?” Because you left it in my care for a week!
{{{nellie}}} I have nothing to say that would not sound like empty platitudes. Just know that you and you daughter are in my thoughts.
I just wanted to make sure I didn’t kill them. They are her “Cancer Orchids.” My Uncle Maus sent them to her each time she was declared “Cancer Free.”
Ah - the good ol’ pressed ham.
My. God. That’s so crazy, it just might work.
Good morning.
It’s 65F and sunny. It’s going to be sunny with a high of 96F today. There will also be haze due to wildfire smoke drifting in. Our AQI won’t be affected as much as the northern counties closer to the border. I did smell woodsmoke last night. There is a fire closer to me, near Carbonado, but it’s not that big (yet).
Nellie, I’m so glad you’ve checked in, but I’m sorry to hear of all the negative stuff going on. Also, I really hope the maintenance guys show today because I dunno how you’re gonna sleep if you can’t at least turn on your fan. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your daughter. I hope she finds something soon.
Yes, the surgery is this Thursday, not Surgery, lol! Wow, I am struggling to read even with my glasses on, so I don’t always catch my mistakes.
Coppertone, I used to make oatmeal cookies with golden raisins and chocolate chips. I don’t make cookies much anymore, though. Once in a while I’ll make some chocolate chip cookies, but I find I bake more in the winter.
Metal Mouse, I saw some of the pics you posted. Very nice! I’m sure that once you’re back to your regular gym routine, those pounds will drop off.
I used to keep houseplants, but gave up on them when previous dogs and cats would constantly knock them over. I dunno why I gave up on them. I figure I’m busy enough with the plants I have in the garden and pots in the spring and summer. By the time mid-August rolls around, I’m kind of burning out on the constant plant care, but I keep on until the first frost arrives. It’s nice to have a break over the winter.
I got the great room steam cleaned yesterday, and although I had plans for the main hallway and den last night, I was kind of just done. I went to Costco when it opened to pick up the pups’ Apoquel, only to find out the prescription wasn’t ready yet, so I had to kill an hour in Costco. I cruised the aisles and looked at stuff, but kept my spending to a minimum, except for the Apoquel. That was 175 bucks all by itself.
Anyway, by the time I got through the second pharmacy line and the regular checkout line, and home again, we were creeping up on 11:00. Then, I had to water all the flowers, which takes a bit of time, clean the kitchen, and eat lunch. By the time I got started on cleaning the great room, more than half the day was gone.
Then, I had to wait until my husband went to bed, and by the time he did, I just didn’t have the energy to run the steamer again.
Today will be laundry, floor washing and general tidying up. Tonight, I’ll get those two remaining areas done, even if I have to kick my husband out of the den. I want one day to just chill before the surgery.
Lord help me when it’s time for me to recuperate from the surgery. My husband tried to help run the steamer yesterday and I was losing my mind because he wasn’t doing it as I would do it. I showed him what to do, but he didn’t realize how many times you need run the steamer over the rug to suck up the moisture. I tried to stay back and appreciate the fact he was making an effort, but I was gritting my teeth. I ended up going over the areas he did, just to get the moisture out of the carpet.
Okay, I suppose I should get started. Please take care of yourselves.
Nellie, I hope you’re more comfortable soon, and if it’s 93, run the damn fan.
We’ve had househuests so I’m way behind on everything. My lovely wife’s friend and her spouse, so I don’t get the emotional boost from them that she does.
(((nellie)))
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have an infectious disease appointment this afternoon. I do need to call Staples to see how much they will charge to remove the virus from my computer.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
metal mouse, from the Mayo Clinic.
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses high-energy acoustic sound waves to boost blood circulation, accelerate tissue repair, and relieve…
It has really helped with her ligament injury. The vet sets the machine for intensity and number of shocks. Ariel got 1,000 yesterday. It is a bit painful so she was sedated. Both the vet and vet tech have done this on themselves. One for shoulder bursitis and one for a rolled ankle. They said it hurt but really helped.
Hubs puts my good kitchen knives in the dishwasher.
Be grateful, your recovery isn’t going to last six months. You will be feeling fine and wanting to do things the day after your surgery, so be careful with yourself.
Our sheets have only been changed four times since my surgery. Sigh.
OTOH, I get to take the sling off on Thursday so that’s exciting. The dressings are starting to come off and the scars are just thin pink lines and are very hard to see. Paying attention to my doctor sure has made a difference!
So…T.C. friend’s father passed away. I’d like to send her some flowers, but nobody delivers out there. NF could buy some in town and bring them to tai chi tomorrow but Prescott Valley is flooding so that would be a big ask. Maybe we can go to Huntington and find her a nice bit of Fenton glass.
We are expecting storms and possibly a tornadoes today. Harry started his genny just to be sure which led to all the men in the neighborhood firing their up as well. I don’t think we will lose power, but its better to be prepared.
Nellie, I’m so sorry that things are not going well. I do hope your daughter finds something soon and that maintenance can fix your fan. With the heat it is, run the fan anyhow. You deserve to be comfortable and neighbor can buy some earplugs.
Shoulder’s starting to bitch at me, so off I go for a while. Be safe everyone!
Yeah, we rarely indulge there, and not just because it’s $50 no matter what. But the burgers are made fresh and the spuds are real potatoes sliced in the store. And the milkshakes are pretty good, too. They also dump a load of fries in your bag, regardless of which option you select. The two of us can’t finish a small fries.
Today we go to Chase to open an account. We need a second bank here so we can close out our CU back in Oregon and have our cash local and easily accessed. I love credit unions, but they are almost always local rather than national, which can make things problematic. I don’t know the reputation of local CUs, so we’re going with a known bank.
After that, a quick stop for some necessary groceries.
It’s 73F at 1030, which is such a huge relief from what we’ve had the last ten days or so. This will only last until the weekend, but it sure is pleasant without the humidity. I see that our former home in Portland is in the high 90s, which is not normal for them.
I have been coiffed so I’m less raggedy than I was. The poor stylist was there all alone - her coworker called out, apparently again. So she was waiting to hear who’d be coming in to relieve her at 2:30 when she was supposed to be off. Apparently this location and the one in the next county over have staffing issues. Looks like I was lucky to get in when I did - the listed wait time is now almost 2 hours!!
I was going to stop at the farm store for corn and 'maters, but they’re closed Moanday and Tuesday. It sure would have been nice if they’d posted the sign at the street entrance instead of on the front of the store, way the heck back from the road. Anyway, no corn for supper tonight.
FCD is at the boat with the dog. I guess I should find something to do before the rain returns.
You have broken my brain.
From the Department of Weird Dreams, last night a very young Robert Wagner was on some sort of spy mission and I was with him, either assisting or as a ride-along - the dream wasn’t specific. Why him? I have no idea - the brain will brain as it will.
And I forgot to mention - I rescued a turtle!! When I got home, as I was turning into the driveway, there was a box turtle smack in the middle of the drive! I seem to recall reading something recently that if you rescue one, you should place it on the side of the road where it was headed. Otherwise it would attempt to cross again. So I put it in the grass on its destination side. I may wander down and see where it it now.
FCD has come home and is futzing in his office. I need to do something constructive to do. I suppose.
I’ve done oatmeal butterscotch chip, and liked them.
And back from the Hyundai dealership, oil (synthetic) has been changed, tires rotated, and credit card charged a goodly sum, but given that it’s been 9 months before servicing I guess I can’t complain. Also stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up some batteries for my wristwatch and garage door opener, so I have done my bit for the gross national product for the day. Up to 86F now at 11am, so mowage will have to wait until tomorrow or Thorsday, depending on my ‘donwanna’ gene… They did pickup the recycleables (it was scheduled for last Thursday), so I put my bin and the neighbor’s back where they belong until next time.
Cat Glove, guess I’ll have to see Odysseus here sometime; I like Matt Damon as an actor and the story is epic, but of course I vowed to go see Project Hail Mary and now will have to watch it at home. And sad news about co-worker, that’s something a father should never have to do. Like the idea.
Knots, I’m with you, three please sounds like a perfectly good answer…and now you have me thinking I haven’t visited The Cookie Fix shop in awhile…and dammit, I’m trying to lose weight here!

Mollie, nice toe work.
Taters, I was getting a fair amount of exercise while traveling, but too many calories were around and so tempting (I have tried dipping dots for the first time in my life and find them pleasant).
Wait, wait, wait…is that the same issue or two separate ones?
Wet one, thanks for the information, I’ll remember that if it’s ever prescribed for me.
JtC, happy de-slinging Thursday! Sorry to hear about T.C. Friend’s loss, I think she knows you care.
Cookie, know what you mean about 5 Guys Fries…I often kid the FDA will classify them one day as an addictive substance. Happy banking.
FCM, nice of you to be in the turtle-rescue business. Haven’t had to do that in 15 years or so.
And now need to plan the afternoon slothage and maybe a 1,000 calorie burn at the gym. Take care all.
Less busy again today, although I did spend most of the shift on the 300 Sort Table. Not a lot of damages and re wraps, either. Although the Boneheaded Home Despot package was 4 60" boards that were shipped in 2 30" boxes taped together. But they did want to use more that 2, so they taped shopping bags to the end, with the expected results. Also I had a busted box of door hanging hardware that got sent back. Someone will be unhinged when the find out about that. I’m having a sausage, chipolte cheddar and egg sandwich for lunch.
It was only 88F(31.111C) outside so far, so it does feel like False Fall.
If you cross the bear, OYKW will come at you, Waffle House style.
We once had a fish fight at 45mph, coming back home from fishing at Lake Lynn.
Looks good!
So pretty much having a mechanical cat purr on her.
I would have had him flogged.
Feel better!
Iron the drapes?
My constructive activity was clearing the grates at our end of the culvert that goes under the road. You couldn’t even see them for all the leaves and dirt that had accumulated. So I raked up a big cartload of leaves and crud, then moved a few rocks in the hopes of promoting better drainage. We’ll see what happens when the next toad-soaker hits.
I also decided to nip back the wisteria that threatened to ensnare anyone who got too close (like anyone going to the truck.) Having done both tasks, I’m back inside enjoying some sweet cherries (I shouldn’t buy them - I can’t stop eating them!!!) Wonder what’s next?
Definitely not ironing drapes.
Afternoon all.
On the irk nice front:
I was hoping someone would be in today so I could ask them if a bit of analysis for the thesis would be practical, given that I’m running out of time and I’ve never done any of it before. Anyway, he came in during the afternoon but didn’t have a lot to do (his contract is expiring soon so he’s easing out of the project a bit) and he’d done it and written up an explanation for me (with illustrations) by home time. I wasn’t expecting that. I would bring in something nice as a thanks, but unfortunately he’s allergic to a crazy long list of things…
On the irk drama front:
I mentioned the redundancies from one of the two major organisations based on site, well the other organisation is also making one person from the group redundant as well.
One of the following 3 options will be losing their job:
Officially qualified, very experienced, is the expected successor to take over the group when the current one retires in a few years. Is on reduced hours at the moment due to childcare but still very productive.
Not officially qualified but doing the work of at least 2 people. Nicest and in some ways most competent person in the group- certainly the most organised. When they’re away, the place barely functions. Recently promoted to beyond their qualification level due to working highly competently at that level. Employed as part of a sub-group.
Officially qualified. Does nothing. Hates everyone. I was there 6 months before she spoke to me and over a year before she said anything that wasn’t strictly essential work related. Is married to the leader of the sub-group (though I have never met such a non-coupley couple). Used to work at a higher grade but lost that job due to incompetence, got re-hired by her husband.
Now we’re all hoping this is, as it seems to be, an attempt to get #3 let go without responsibility falling on her husband to do it, but… It’s HR officially making the call, based on mystery data, so it’s a bit stressful. We won’t find out for sure for another 3 weeks, and if they get rid of #2 instead of #3 I think we’ll have a riot going.
Anyway… I’m not even going to attempt anything productive this evening. I may do some watering outside, that’s about it.
Passwords? I change them when the IT department demands it. Otherwise, they stay as they are. Before my surgery last fall, I made sure hubby had the money-related passwords. I’m not worried about him having my book of faces password, etc., so there’s not much I need to tell him. He also has no clue about most of the bill paying part. But he does know how to vacuum, clean toilets, and put dishes away. ![]()
Regarding orchids, my mom has a green thumb. A very green thumb. And she loves orchids. But she can’t grow them.
I have problems starting plants from seed, but I can get seedlings to grow and I can keep stuff growing/blooming.
Speaking of which, my panicle hydrangea is already starting to turn pink. It’s still July. It’s been warm this summer.
I sort of do, but also put coconut and nuts in as well.
Since I have to water the garden, I’ve been setting timers on my phone or tablet. But I tend towards softer sounds, and I wasn’t noticing them going off. So I finally changed to old car horn. Which amuses me.
The famous viral Neiman Marcus cookie recipe from years ago involved oatmeal. IIRC you zipped it in a blender to make a fine powder.
I made it once or twice when that whole $$$ nonsense was a whole big thing - they were good!
Fuck that noise. Run the damn fan.
And put a wet bandana or similar cloth in the freezer, to wrap around your neck.
That’s hilarious. I thought yawns were contagious …
Hope y’all stay safe!
{ rolls up newspaper }
Yes, it did, but the threatened/promised rain never materialized (or possibly I slept through it, but nothing looked damp today) and although the Oracles are threatening/promising rain later today, I have a feeling there’s some hand-watering in my near future.
Just nuked a Stouffers, which always gives Monkey false hopes (his gooshy-fud, with gravy, is on top of the microwave) so now he’s lying in his best “house panther” pose, jealously watching me eat human food, with gravy.
Yanno, buddy, if you kicked in for rent, or cleaned your own box once in a while, you’d probably live like a king 'round here.
(Don’t worry. He’ll get gooshy-fud, with gravy. Later.)
Da Jungle delivered a box today. Extra-long tongs (for feeding my extra-long python) plus some de-fuzzing facial things imma try out now that perimopause is making my cheeks not-so-smooth, and cat kibble.
{ sigh } This is my life now. Feed a snake, feed a cat, try to remove signs of aging off my peachfuzz face. Nuke a TV dinner, wash down a multivitamin.
Man, I used to be fun I swear!
