The chocolate pancake with strawberry syrup and melty butter looked a hot mess by the time I’d demolished the plate. No regrets.
Late night final time. Looked at the weather report for the rest of the week and looks like mowage is in my plans for tomorrow, as there is a fair-to-good chance of rain the rest of the week. And that was about all the activity I could manage, will be heading off to Slumberland here in a short while.
Cat Glove, you are right of course regarding food and vacations, and splurge I did, but now I have to pay the piper.

One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her two dozen eggs. I haven’t looked to see if they’re store-bought, or farm eggs. (I’m guessing that since her patients need her to come to them, the eggs are delivered to them as well.)
I’ve never made smothered pork chops, but I think I’ll try this weekend. Chicken broth (reduced sodium), cream of chicken soup, onion soup mix, and pork gravy mix. Whisk it all up in a crock pot, add four bone-in chops, and cook on low for six hours. Add 3 tbsp corn starch mixed with 3 tbsp water to thicken the gravy, and cook on high for 30 minutes. I’ll have to do it Saturday, as Mrs. L.A. won’t make it during the week.
I’d throw some caramelized onions on top once they’re done, but then, I put onions on practically everything.
ETA would a bit of garlic in the cooking broth be acceptable?
Go for a skin tone not found in nature. There’s a reason that many cartoons have anthromorphic characters: people, especially kids, see them as equitably relatable as opposed to white guy, black girl.

I just took Sir Charles on his evening walk, and (Jed Clampett voice) yeeee dawgies, breathing is like sucking through a nostril straw. It is hot and MUGGY. Sir Chuck spent a good part of today pretending he was a rug. I tried one last time to fix my portable AC, but I’m not Jesus, and it’s not Lazarus, so I don’t know what I was thinking.
Tomorrow will be even hotter than today, but then it’ll cool off. YIPPEE!

I feel that pain! 'im indoors sometimes does the laundry and takes it out of the machine, then just leaves it in the basket for me to hang up because he just doesn’t do it right 
If he plans to do any other housework, I try to encourage him to do it when I’m not there so I don’t see what a total dog’s breakfast he makes out of it.

Yesterday was not a very productive day at irk, we have lost access to a load of our systems as they’re all being migrated to a new platform and won’t be available until later today. That just means we’re faffing about doing odd jobs to keep ourselves occupied. Or reading the Dope instead. I logged off on time, and went downstairs to make campus food, then had a bit of sofa time with Blossom before getting changed and heading out to the gym. I did a kettlebells class that was hard work, and I was hot and sticky by the time it was over. Went home, had a quick shower, then 'im indoors provided me with dinner.
Today the commute to irk wasn’t too bad despite things running late, the downside is that I’ve got a 3hr management training thing to sit through this morning that promises to be boring so I’ll need to take a strong cup of tea with me. Then another meeting this afternoon before I can escape. On the plus side, we should be out at the pub tonight. Hurrah!

I’ve seen pics of all the stuff they are doin’ for VBS and it does look like they are havin’ fun.

Today has started with 70 Ferrets, theoretically enroute to upper 80s. We had a major toad-soaker last night - in fact, here’s a pic of a toad (or frog? I think it’s a frog) on the dog door that I took last night. And when I was in bed, there was some serious rain against the side bedroom window - the wind almost never blows against that side! Anyway, we might get some more this afternoon and overnight, then a cooler dry stretch for a few days.
Not sure what I’ll be doing today. Since I woke at 4-stoopit-o’clock I’m not sure what I’ll be up for. So we’ll see.
We got our time-to-renew-your-car-sticker email - $191 for a year!!! Dang! I’m pretty sure it’s not based on the age of the vehicle, so we’ll be seeing another in a few days for the truck. Dammit. My car isn’t up for renewal till March. The email also says: Your registration fees support the Maryland Transportation Trust Fund, including operations, maintenance, and construction of roads and bridges, public transit, and more. I’m good with that. Just not happy that it’s so high, especially since we have 3 vehicles. Dang. They even offer the option to renew for 3 years - I guess that’s in case the fees go up?? I’ll pass on that good deal.
Speaking of prices going up, I’ve noticed candy bars in the impulse rack by the grocery check outs are around $2 these days! [geezer mode] When I was a kid, I paid 5¢ for a Snickers that was about the same size as these.[/geezering] Just out of curiosity, I pulled up one of those inflation calculation sites - theoretically, a nickle in 1965 has the same purchasing power as 54¢ today. So why are Snickers four times that much?? Eeeesh!

various fungi have attacked the cocoa plants and have reduced the amount of cocoa beans to become chocolate. that has driven the price up.
look for things like “chocolatey” or “chocolate candy” those have less cocoa in the product. the fda requires 10% of cocoa to be labeled milk chocolate. europe requires 25% of cocoa. the more cocoa the more money for the product. i’ve been hoarding, and stocking up anytime there is a sale.
throat is better. i am attempting to resist the cough. hopefully it is just exposure to the wildfire smoke.
Good morning, MMPers! It was 72ºF and humid (gasp!) this morning. We had gotten a little over two inches of rain last night. The creek was in flood range for a bit. Luckily, it was weakening as it approached. North Nashville was hit hard.
The sub worked us hard in my power flow class last night. My Fitbit said I had burnt over five hundred calories. Let me tell you - I am feeling it this morning. Between that and walking three and a half miles this morning, my legs are Jell-O.
Mrs Magill and Squeaky are leaving Toronto today, heading for Ann Arbor and UM. They are definitely not going to apply for asylum in Canada. Tempting as it is.

Good morning. The weather and the air quality have changed here in Elkhart. The air quality number is down to 25 (good), and the high temperature is predicted to be 73 F. I blinked and shook my head. I checked the calendar. Yes, it’s July 22nd. What the duck interrobang?!
I finished the “I had one of those” jigsaw puzzle, and I’ve started on the “Christmas cookies” puzzle. White Mountain Puzzles had all their Christmas puzzles on sale, that’s why.
I’m having the windows washed, by a professional. Inside, outside, frames, tracks, screens. I’ve lived here over 20 years and have never washed the outsides, and probably washed the inside maybe half a dozen times. The weather is perfect for window washing. 63F right now going up to 75. We deserve it after the hell that was last week.
Rode yesterday for the first time in a month. Ariel still being on the DL, I am forging a partnership with Jake. Jake is very different to Ariel. He’s about twice as wide, taller, and much more laid back. It’s fun riding him, but I do miss my pocket rocket.
Good morning.
It’s 66F and sunny outside. It’ll be sunny with haze and reach about 96F today. I wouldn’t be surprised if the highest temp rises a bit above that. As Nellie mentioned, it was both hot and muggy yesterday. However, the AC in the bedroom was on, so I would occasionally escape in there and cool off as I made the bed with freshly laundered bedding. I also washed all the guest bedding and an extra set of sheets for the grandkids.
I finally finished the steam cleaning at12:15 a.m. this morning. However, I’ll need to go back over a spot in the main hallway because I had run out of solution in the tank right at the end. I was too tired to do any more, so I’ll hit it today before it becomes too much warmer.
I started cleaning the hallway around 9:00 p.m last night, but only did a portion because I had to wait for Mr. Taters to go to bed. He went to bed a little after 10:00, so I did the den and then finished the hallway.
Today’s chores will mainly consist of clearing the dining room table, which tends to accumulate stuff, and washing light fixtures. I noticed a good bit of dust on a couple of them. Also, I need to wash the kitchen and bathroom floors and do laundry (clothing and dog blankets). Then, I’ll finally be done.
Tomorrow, we’ll leave the house at 0530 so I can check in at the specialty center for my cataract surgery.
Chocolate has indeed become expensive, both the good stuff and even cheap chawklit. Fortunately for me, I can only tolerate a little chocolate anymore, so I rarely buy it. When I do buy it, it’s good, dark chocolate. But occasionally, some M&Ms are not amiss.
