How to be politically correct thread

Literally, in fact. He’s a disembodied anus overgrown with massive tumors, which happens to bear a superficial resemblance to an adult human male. A lot of people don’t know that.

Now, one more knows it who didn’t want to.

So you’re asking if it’s people of no color or goats of no color, right?

The only time I hear anyone correct anyone’s speech because it’s not politically correct is when one of my friends or relatives on the right correct another friend or relative on the right by saying “oh, they won’t let you say THAT anymore!” Most of the time, they’re just being ridiculous (I can’t call them black beans; I guess they’re beans of color).

To paraphrase G0sp3l, if you make it a point not to be an asshole, you’re usually going to be ok.

You’re kid-ding!

Accessory after the fact… shakes head sadly

You’d make money developing that app.

You do care.

So even though he’s corrected by a “whole THREE people”, if Piers Morgan learns from this and understands how his words might effect someone it’s… worth it?

Seems like some contradictions in what you’re saying up there.

“You fucking skirt”.

Now I’m OUTRAGED!!!11! How dare you call me a woman!!!

You sexist, misogynist, Nazi.

Damn!

It’s clear you don’t actually believe a word you are saying. If you actually cared about it, it wouldn’t be in this forum.

You are choosing to mock rather than try to understand. If you had, you’d know the issue was the same as when someone just mentions someone is black when it’s completely irrelevant. Instead, you just made up the strawman that “gay bar” is not PC anymore. Which, if you actually got out of your bubble and were around people who use the term, you’d know was completely untrue.

This is just a “let’s mock the liberals for stuff we make up” thread. We know it is. You’re not being clever. You’re repeating a failed tactic and just boring everyone.

Please don’t make me take back my claim that, even though I disagree with you, you usually have good things to say. Don’t make it where I might as well put you on my ignore list.

Canada Geese are just “Geese” in Canada. So, there’s that.

And a bar is just a bar. I see gay people in “regular” bars all the time. I think the three tweeters might be on to something.

Well, sure, if that’s what this thread actually was. I’m sure there are lists out there.

The answer, as far as I can tell, is that both are generally acceptable, but Black is more so lately. African American is mostly used in formal contexts, but most black people self-identify as black. It also allows you not to have to worry about their national origin. You’re still black if you’re from the UK.

As for the specific situation, she’s your grandma. If she were my grandma, I’d tell her she shouldn’t worry about accidentally offending me. I’d tell her that, if she says the wrong word, I’ll know she didn’t mean anything by it, and I will even helpfully let her know the right word so she won’t accidentally offend anyone else.

I did that with my late grandpa. That’s how he learned that “Mexicans” wasn’t the preferred term, and always looked at me (or my sister) when he says Latino to make sure he got it right. I miss that man…

I endorse this message.

Meanwhile:

  1. Twitter fucking sucks and has done more to dumb down the populace than anything else I can think of in the past twenty years. It’s basically the equivalent of a bunch of people trying to communicate by holding up bumper stickers.

  2. Given the above, why should I, or any of us, give a rat’s ass what fucking Piers Morgan was doing in a goddam gay bar, bar, tavern, beer garden, dive or whatever you want to call it at 2:43AM in fucking Soho anyway?

  3. To the OP: how has this tragedy ruined your life (at least for today)? Are you afraid you’re going to lose your job if you use the term “gay bar” at work? Do you think you’ll be ostracized by your friends and family if you happen to characterize a bar as a “gay bar”? Are you just worried that somewhere out there in the Internet there are some anonymous people you’ve never met who might think slightly less of you if you happen to let slip a term they somehow disapprove of? Be precise.

Wait…we can’t call someone from Mexico “Mexican” anymore?

Generally not, if they happen to be “Mexicans” from Guatemala, or Honduras, or Venezuela, or Colombia, or…

And if they happen to be from Mexico?

Then yes they are Mexicans. Do you really not understand the point here?

Hater!

A thread like this sure has promise! A guidebook of sorts to assist the mentally disabled people who have trouble grasping concepts such as “be considerate” and “have empathy”. Thanks, Adaher!

The part I really don’t get, is that it’s usually the same people complaining about “political correctness” that also complain about how people aren’t as polite any more as they used to be.

Well, the proper term now is “Latinix,” as it’s gender-neutral.
