A politically correct thread walks into a ‘bar’.
It always amazes me how much difficulty some people have not being assholes to other people because of aspects of those people that those people did not choose and can not change.
Condolences!
They’re complaining that people aren’t polite to them. They, on the other hand, have the right to be rude to whomever they want.
Latinx
So the people who think everyone should either be a White, Republican Christian or shut up are complaining about people who are ‘telling them what to be and how to act’?
The Irony, it burns.
And the moral of that is–‘Be what you would seem to be’–or if you’d like it put more simply–‘Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.
Typx
That’s it, concisely stated.
“I can slam The Other and brag about drinking their tears, but fuck all if they can slight me in any possible way, real or imagined.”
The “Non-PC Tell it Like It Is” are the worst snowflakes of all.
It’s the same as that “I can spew all sorts of hateful shit as ‘opinion’ and you must respect it, but YOU need to shut the fuck up” bullshit.
“WHAT KIND OF BAR WAS IT?” /audience
But being an asshole is FREEDOM OF SPEECH! I have MORE right to be an asshole than ANYONE does to tell me what an asshole I am!
quotes for SO MUCH TRUTH and amen!
So to clear up what seems like some confusion, or at least as far as I can tell, are people here saying Piers Morgan was being insensitive when he referred to where he was at as a gay bar, as opposed to just a bar?
Or was, and is the criticism against him worth dismissing since it was only brought up by three people?
It seems like people are saying both, some, and none.
Nothing to clear up- Adaher is an idiot. Move along.
No, people are saying you’re an idiot because you got upset when The Right Wing Media reported a story about how three people on Twitter said something you don’t agree with.
The outrage! Three people on Twitter said something! And that makes you scared and confused!
Three people whining does not make it a thing. You can always find people to complain about anything at any given time.
Are you talking to me, adaher, or the voices in your head?
Where have any of them (adaher, oklahoma, whoever) or myself talked about outrage, being scared and upset, and beside ourselves over Piers Morgan being scolded about saying he was at a gay bar as opposed to simply saying he was at a bar?
I think it’s more some serious eye-rolling more than anything else. Like, 'good Lord, you can’t say gay bar anymore for fear of offending someone? Alright, but man this stuff changes fast and it seems at peoples whims sometimes.
No argument, suggestion, or even attempt at wanting to say something other than what’s the socially acceptable norms of the day. Or at least I didn’t read any of that.
And if you’re talking about my OUTRAGE!!!11!! comment at being called a woman, I was kidding. I think it’s beyond obvious and having a laugh at being called a woman as an insult by someone presumably arguing for sensitivity in how people talk to each other, and about each other (I’m taking that comment as more done on purpose and a joke itself then serious. If it wasn’t… holy shit that’s funny).
I think you meant figuratively

I missed this. Great! Thanks. I was misunderstanding some people in this thread.
Someone upthread suggested that there are many potential descriptors for a bar, such as as biker, sports, beach, etc. None of them are particularly offensive, as far as I can tell. It’s a description, nothing more. I’m trying to suss out why Piers is an asshole for his Twitter post in this regard.
Was he using the word gay pejoratively? Was that his intention? If it was, is the word gay itself, as an adjective, inherently more offensive than the word biker or college? If so, why? This is the part I’m struggling with. Was he using the word gay pejoratively? Why, as a description, is the word gay being singled out if that was where he was in the photo?
The popular argument I see being made against him in the Twitter replies is that the word gay doesn’t add any meaningful relevance to Piers’s post. Well, if he had described it as a college bar would that have provided any more relevancy? It seems that the popular decision would call for Piers to just state that he was in a bar, and nothing else. That smacks of censorship to me, as far as I’m concerned because the word gay should not be seen as something in the least to be ashamed of, but instead, celebrated. Hell, Piers may have increased business there as a result of his post.
On the flipside, if Piers was using the word gay as a slight, asshole he may be, but it just doesn’t seem to jibe with his views about homosexuality, if my Google-Fu is of any account.
The nuance you are missing is that Piers is an asshole. Past experience has shown this.
