I’ve been out of the loop, news-wise, and Yahoo is more ‘infotainment’ anyway. But I’ve just gotten access to Internet (We’re on the 22nd floor, and WiFi is on the ground floor, so it’s inconvenient), and when I click on Yahoo it’s in Spanish. I guess they assume that if you visit a Spanish-speaking country, you can speak Spanish. Anyway, how do I switch it back to English? And if I do nothing, will it change back when we get home?
log into your yahoo account … go to preferences … locations/languages … try those options.
If it’s all in Spanish, try this after logging in:
Click the Gear icon, upper right corner.
Choose Account Info – “Cuenta”, maybe
In the left menu at the bottom, click “Preferencia”
Click “Localidades y Lenguas”
Open the text entry field for Select (“Seleccione”, maybe)
Select “Ingles”
I have’nt actually done it, so Im not sure what terms they use for options in Spanish. You might have to guess them.
Can’t you do something like us.yahoo.com, assuming you’re just trying to get to the US home page of Yahoo?
I have two choices: Ubicaciones e idiomas and Preferencias de contenido.
Choosing ‘Preferencias’ takes e to a page that wants me to connect with Facebook. (At least, that’s what I think it wants.) Aside from the ‘Conectar Facebook’ button there are two links: Términos and Privacidad. The former takes me to the Terms of Service, and the second one takes me back to the Yahoo homepage.
So trying the ‘ideomas’ link, I choose English from the ‘Ideoma’ dropdown menu and click ‘Añadir’. When I go to the homepage, it’s still in Spanish.
Moot point, now. Back home, and Yahoo switched back to English.
Were you in a Spanish speaking country?
They choose languages based on ISP addy.
Know nothing of Yahoo, but switching Google to English is a pain, with several different switches needing to be set. Google has “accounts” and Chrome has its own independent accounts. Even after setting all the switches to English, you’ll need to access this URL:
Google (If there’s a clickable link to that URL from a Google/Chrome setup window I’ve never found it; I need to enter that URL manually whenever I accidentally clear cookies.)
Even with all the switches I know about set to English, Google Books often (and Google Groups always unless I’m in a Google “account”) display in Thai. Changing the “.th” domain to “.com” does no good — it just reverts back.
I’ve also set Windo$e preferences to English/U.S.A., yet still get non-Google non-Thailand sites which insist on presenting Thai text or showing prices in Thai baht.
Yes, we were in Puerto Rico.
