I’m pretty sure that if you message someone you don’t know on FB, it goes to their ‘other’ folder, which hardly any one checks, and many people don’t know about.
Use a dating site. Stop hitting on girls unsolicited.

Yuck. “Girls” don’t want to be “hit on.” “Hit on” me on Facebook and you’ll get a complaint. I’m not online for your girl-shopping pleasure.
Is tinder still a thing?
Ask? Pshaw! Send them unsolicited. Bitches love unsolicited dick pics.
Very much so for the under 25s, near as I can tell.

Similar to facebook as far as strategy goes. I was very successful years ago meeting girls using AOL online profiles. Very simple method. I would browse the profiles looking for things we had in common and could easily talk about or things I had some interest in. I would simply comment on one of these topics and hopefully strike up a conversation. I met some real nice ladies like this and had some great dates. I stayed away from flirting until the conversation indicated she had some interest.
OP, forget Facebook. It’s not a dating site. Case in point, here’s a narrative on another board from a woman who was repulsed by a guy who came on too strong at Facebook:
Heed her story. Most women will be creeped out if you approach them on Facebook.
Your problem is not which website you use.
Your problem is that you are unable to walk up to a stranger and introduce yourself and strike up a conversation.
Trust me, if your problem is meeting girls and getting dates, GET OFF THE INTERNET.

I completely disagree. The internet, and internet dating in particular, is made for people who may have trouble initiating that first contact IRL. I’m definitely not saying those are the only types who use dating sites (I use OkC myself and have had one helluva good time) but they make up a sizeable percentage.
Nothing says “sexy” like a hot dick pic.

Yeah. I disagree too. If some dude I didn’t know tried to flirt with me on facebook, I wouldn’t talk to him. I would block him. I am not on facebook to hookup. For the love of Bob, I have family on facebook. I’m not conducting my personal dating business there.
Talk to me on a dating site? Sure. Be polite and not disgusting, you might even get my phone number.
I’ll comment on it. Seriously, start hanging out here on the Dope. Learn from Dopers how to express yourself clearly, and with good grammar and typing skills. Once you’ve mastered these, you’re almost there. Start looking for and attending Dopefests. As a valued and respected member of the Doper community, you’ll stand a good chance of meeting that special someone.
While that’s an interesting suggestion for the OP, I’ve always assumed that the straight dope had a crowd of the older variety, and I guess I assumed the OP was not of that variety.
Send dick pics. It worked with my wife. Skinnier the better.
What? The wife? Or the dick in the pics?
Hey, don’t judge other people on their kinks! A 50+ year old grammar obsessed dominatrix may be just what he needs. Slap that boy into shape you (in the general sense) retired school teacher. Spank it hard until he learns proper English.
