** NOTE - Please do NOT hijack this thread to start wars between Apple OS and Android. I am looking for hard answers here. **
Using High Sierra on a new machine.
Using newest release of Android on my Note 8.
Carefully worked settings on BOTH machines. Neither can see a test event I’ve created on the other platform.
Removed all Delegations under @accounts under Calendar >Preferences.
Sifted through settings on the Google side best as I could.
Any tips from the Teeming Millions. Please do not just post links. I’ve done searches online and get the same sets of instructions on both platforms. I seek first-hand solutions.
Have you done this and what issues did you encounter?
BOY this is twitchy.
I used this link as a possible guide.
Scroll to Method 1. When I enter the Google Calendar App, then follow steps, and hit Settings and scroll down, there is no manage accounts line to be found ! It should be below “holidays”, but it isn’t. Nothing is there below Holidays.
Very strange.
This is the way I have found to do it. It works syncing events in both directions, from Apple Calendar to Google Calendar, and from Google to Apple. Getting Google into Apple is easy. Getting Apple into Google is a pain.
On the Apple side, just subscribe to the appropriate Google Calendar, using the private Google calendar sharing link. There are lots of descriptions on how to do it, because it is very easy.
On the Android side, use the DAVx5 app. I think it costs a bit on the play store, but it is open source, so you can install it for free from fdroid, or build it yourself.
DAVx5 will let you subscribe to your Apple calendar and inserts the events into your calendar on the Android device. You can also add events through the Android calendar, and those will be synced back to Apple.
Adding Apple data to DAVx5 is not difficult, but does require following the documentation.
This does not put your Apple calendar on your Google web calendar.
So, my total setup:
I use a Google calendar for personal stuff and work.
I use an Apple calendar for family stuff.
I use an Android phone, with a DAVx5 setup as described above.
I use an Apple tablet.
I use Thunderbird to manage calendars on my desktop. It is subscribed to both Apple and Google.
I can see and change any calendar from my Android phone, Apple tablet, and Thunderbird desktop.
