No Google Calender app? Really?

Am I just an idiot or is there really no app that synchs my Google Calender to my phone? I have an android phone so I see no reason why I have to go to the browser and log on in order to actually see my google calender. Is there anyone out there who can maybe help me with this?

Try smooth calendar, it syncs up with google calendar.

Isn’t there an app installed by default that’s something like “Calendar”?

On my friend’s G1, the (pre-installed) “Calendar” app basically shows an on-phone copy of her on-line Google calendar; the phone syncs whenever it has a data connection, but the (perhaps un-synced) calendar is still available even when there’s no cell or wi-fi connection. You don’t go through the browser app at all. That’s what you want, right?

(You do need to go into the phone preferences and tell it which Google account & password to sync to)

Perhaps I am not understanding, but the calendar app that comes with all tghe android phones I have ever used syncws the google calendar. I is and a"ways has ben default behavior for me. I must be missing something in the OP.

Oh…really?

Wow…I am so smart…I am so smart…Smrt…

That worked wonderfully…thanks all!

I wondered if it might be so simple as the OP searching online for a calender and not finding a calendar…

Nah. Google autocorrects. And who searches with anything else?

I think it’s appelling that you think I cen’t spall and thet wes my problam

And if Google doesn’t autocorrect you, the Dope will!

Great. Now I’m hungry for an appel.

My Droid X tried to synch a colander with Google. It was quite a strain on the CPU.

Is that better than the default that comes with Android for Google Calendar? I’m thinking about switching…

The problem is that while it’s synching, the calendar often hangs, and can’t be accessed. I’d like something that won’t do that. I’d also like something that has more versatility for putting in appointments with the phone.

LOL - glad you found how to set it up. It’s a great thing! Typo Knig and I have a shared “family calendar” that we each sync to, so we can enter stuff the other one needs to be aware of.

For what it’s worth, there are add-on calendars that offer different functionality; on my Android, I use Pimlical which has a nice interface. But the underlying data is all based on the Google calendar.

I haven’t looked for a third-party app on the iPod Touch, which is what I used after my Palm died and before I got a smartphone. But I suspect they exist.

Even on the iPhone it is fairly trivial to sync the built in calendar function with Google.

You have a colander? Luxury!

I use Smooth Calendar - it has a lovely, compact widget that is customisable to be able to show a.number of upcoming events, colour coded

We used to dream of having a colander!

When I was a kid I had to strain the boiling spaghetti through my fingers and I was GRATEFUL!

Ha! You had spaghetti? We had to eat wet newspaper that Da stained yellow with his own urine, and we called it spaghetti. And we were glad to have it!
