Agreed, to a certain extent. The claim would be bullet proof if they already were married. Under California law, only the married couple can dispute the parentage of a child born in wedlock.

And, dork that I am, I just perused the California Rules of Professional Conduct. While technically a lie is prohibited, I don’t see that he’s claimed to be the biological father of the child. Thus, he may feel okay saying that he’s the father, since he and Anna have determined he will act as the father. And, consequently, no ethical violation. (Unless and until he’s called before a court. Then we’ll see some fancy footwork.)

As for a payout, I disagree. I do not believe that a court would strip Anna of custody; instead, she’s more likely to be forced to joint custody, with little or no child support. But I agree that this likely is a ploy.

Hmmm, ethical rules in California: Do they have anything to say about the attorney having carnal relations with his client, who has retained him for a matrimonial cause, no less?

(A) For purposes of this rule, “sexual relations” means sexual intercourse or the touching of an intimate part of another person for the purpose of sexual arousal, gratification, or abuse.

(1) Require or demand sexual relations with a client incident to or as a condition of any professional representation; or

(2) Employ coercion, intimidation, or undue influence in entering into sexual relations with a client; or

(3) Continue representation of a client with whom the member has sexual relations if such sexual relations cause the member to perform legal services incompetently in violation of rule 3-110.

© Paragraph (B) shall not apply to sexual relations between members and their spouses or to ongoing consensual sexual relationships which predate the initiation of the lawyer-client relationship.

(D) Where a lawyer in a firm has sexual relations with a client but does not participate in the representation of that client, the lawyers in the firm shall not be subject to discipline under this rule solely because of the occurrence of such sexual relations.

The worst part of the revelation is that the baby is no longer named Hannah Rose, as had been earlier reported, but is now Dannie Lynn Hope. I understand Anna wanting to name the baby after her deceased son Daniel, but couldn’t she have given her the lovely name Danielle and called her Dani? Darling, you changed your name from Vickie Lynn to the much lovelier Anna Nicole (though Victoria Lynn would have been nice as well). Don’t you think your daughter would rather have a full name too?

Oh, c’mon, that’s pretty goddam insensitive. Your only son dies three days after you give birth to a daughter, you change the name to honor the lost son, and then get flack because it’s not a proper name? Dannie Lynn is a pretty name, and I’m sure it’s not unusual in Texas. Anna Nicole has a lot of faults, but I’m inclined to cut her a little slack on this one.

Sorry, I think Dannie Lynn is a pretty crappy name. Might be cute on a little girl, but not on an adult. The baby had a perfectly nice name, and it was changed to much less attractive one IMO. I just think it’s bizarre that someone who didn’t like the name Vickie Lynn would turn around and name her daughter Dannie Lynn.
