Huh? I thought I *was* logged in ...

I’m visiting my parents again this weekend so I’m using their computer. When I got to the main page for the SDMB message boards I typed in my username and password in the “not cookied” section and was able to log in. So far, so good.

However, every time I try to post in a thread I get a message that I’m not logged in. I’ve typed in my username and password about seven or eight times already, but I still have to do it with each individual thread.

I should mention that my parents have a Tandy P.O.S. that runs Windows 3.1 with a 14.4 modem, which is probably why I’m having this problem. Does anyone know a way to get around this? Is there anything short of a sledgehammer that will work on this machine?

Help!

Depends on the browser.

Being that you are on Win 3.1 machine (depending on your browser) it may not be able to store the user name and password.

You can check your profile to see if that option is checked. If it is and you are still not able to store the user name and password chances are it’s your browser and or cookie allowances.

If you have cookies disabled on the browser, then what you are describing will occur. I have my cookies turned off, and have to enter my username and password each time I post. I do not bother to enter my name and password on the main screen, because it really does nothing.

The VBulletin software is not compatible with Windows 3.1. That’s why you can’t sign in, ladybug.

Oh, no problem. I was just wondering why I couldn’t log in.

My brother explained it to me just now. He said the browser doesn’t hold any cache because it makes the machine run “slower than a dead chimp.” (His words, not mine.)

Anyway, thanks for the help, everyone!

Nah, they are all wrong. I was putting the hex on you for casting aside my sig.

Seriously though, don’t worry about it. It looks better if you have just one. I tend not to read more than a line or 2 of a sig anyways. What I do is rotate mine. You can store the ones you’re not using in a Notepad.
