Huked on Fonics Werkt Fer ME! A challenge

no, not “See-Zer Oh Two Eleven” like you would think oh oh oh! But the Latin prununication (SP)

Ki(As in Kite without the Te)Zahr
and the 0211 is easy to figure out. Incidently, its my birthdate.

I knew there was a reason I wanted to change my SN…

Well, since I was named in the OP and all: kay kay baht toe sigh.

Skay-tricks-Tee-Ex.

I think.

Everybody says my screen name “sur-VAYZ,” which is what it looks like, and in the real world, that’s how it’s pronounced.

But when my brother and I came up with it years and years ago, we said it like this: “sur-VY-uh-see.” That, in my mind, is the proper pronunciation, and it grates on my ear when it’s said otherwise, despite how rational it may seem to do so.

So now I’ll expect it to be pronounced correctly by everyone at the PNW Dopefest in… <checks watch> …fifty-four minutes.

AH-GEE-LEE-ESS SEA-0X

Oh, all right, it’s pronounced the way it looks. Why couldn’t I pick something slick and exotic? I could change it, but I’d have to ask a mod. And I’m AFRAID of mods. People disappear all the time and invariably mods have something to do with it.
Oh,god, I’ve said too much!

Though I’ve been around a while, I rarely post, so it’s unlikely anyone has ever wondered how to pronounce mine, but just on the off-chance that someone has read one of the many Muppet-related threads I’ve contributed to, I’ll clue ya in.

It’s “Pea-Ar-En” then the word “Youth”.

No really exotic meaning behind it. Just a set of initials and a word related to my vocation.

But I’m still confused!
Is that KNEE? or NEH? Is the accent on the first or the second syllable?

No kiddin’? I always thought it was Junior ate

Uh-huh…sure it is. I think we all can see it’s really PORN-Youth. Nuff said.

For clarity, Mine is simply BEE-boy.
However I’ll accept BUH-boy, which makes me think of David Spade and Teri Hatcher shoving people off an airplane.

“flod” to rhyme with “nod”, “nak” to rhyme with “back”.

Accent on the first syllable.

And no it’s not Norwegian.

I thought it was sur-VAY-see.

As for Protesilaus, it seems it’s supposed to be pronounced this way, but I had no idea what the proper pronunciation was when I chose it, and I’m not even sure what the pronunciation guide in the link is supposed to be saying anyway, so I’m going to stick with the way I thought it was originally - pro-tay-SIGH-loss.

I’m sure this has been asked before, but I’ve been wondering about the correct pronunciation of Gaudere.

I thought it was Sir-Vayce.

How to pronounce Gaudere . . . well, I think (though I’ve never actually verified this) that it’s the Latin verb “to rejoice”. So that’d be Gow-dair’ay. I think.

::hopes Gaudere doesn’t come in here and kick his ass for the possibly erroneous pronunciation guide and derivation::

Well… Heck, I’ll let people try and guess. But it is too easy…

Either Sigh, SOO-eye or SOO-ee. Your choice.

Is Swi acceptable? ::d&r::
Mine’s Gun-slinger, in case anybody didn’t know. :stuck_out_tongue:

Was, as in “Ways”, and trel, as in “trl”

It means, essentially, one who squanders his or her resources, and believe you me, it’s so true.

Webster says it’s like this: 'wAs-tr&l also 'wäs-

whew

Mnementh, I’ve always also said your name with the “m” silent.

Boy this thread is enlightening.

Whatever works for you, really, as long as I know it means me. I started out pronouncing it the first way myself, but am now tending towards the second for reasons of brevity and general fun-ness.

In reading that, I just had a brief George Thoroughgood moment: B-b-b-b-b-Boy… Weird.

Wow. Blast from the past. Tip-o’-the-old-hat to ye, Cindy.

As for me, Punoqllads pronounced spehl-bownd. Turn your monitor upside-down if you’re not sure why.

No, actually. I say Sigh. And so what if it doesn’t look like it? :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool inversion! You familiar with Scott Kim?

I’m tired of those unfamiliar with Romeo And Juliet calling me “Mur- CUT - E - O”

It’s “Mur-ku-shE-o”! Dagnabbit!

It’s actually rather easy when you look at it. Misfit (although that spelling always looks funny to me :p) As I’ve mentioned before, this is also my license plate, and people tend to look at it with their heads cocked to one side and say “My . . . spit?” Or “What’s a sfit?”

Well, actually I do have spit, but I’m not broadcasting it that much.

Erm, until now, that is.
