Hurricane Harvey Check In Thread

Ok out here on 8 and 10 (memorial just north of buffalo bayou.) Let’s hope this dry air gets entrained.

.

Annnd there is another tornado warning, 4th or 5th so far.
.

That pictue was from Dickinson, where I live, which was hit particularly hard. My mother lives in Pearland and hasn’t flooded or lost power. I’m hoping to get there soon myself, if the water recedes enough between here & there.

And thank you Mr. Me. I’m hoping to hear from my cousin. His phone has been busy, and he hasn’t responded on Facebook yet.

Houston, galleria area. There were some minor flooding here and there following heavy rains in the night and morning, most streets appeared clear in the afternoon. People were walking or driving around.

Apparently the storm is stuck between two high pressure systems. It’s forecast to get pushed back out into the Gulf and make another landfall.

Here are ways to help.

So a bit of a break, heard on the news that they may dump some water out of addicks and barker reservoirs and send it down buffalo bayou. Houses are already flooded along there but I guess they have figured they need to release somethi g during a break before the dams have a big problem.
.

Barker especially is important, because once that overfills, half of Cinco Ranch will be flooded.

My concern is that we are downstream on memorial and buffalo is already up , so no where for the water to go. Then again better downstream flood than the reservoir giving way which seams to be the army corps concern right now

.

From Mike Hixenbaugh’s Twitter feed - "Harris County official says controlled releases of reservoirs tomorrow will flood homes. Water will stay in them for two months. Stunning.

Around Clay Road and Eldridge and around Westpark Toll Road/Highway 99. Water in homes for TWO MONTHS."

Article on news release.

Stay safe , all you good Dopers and your families. The best Utah Search and Rescue teams are headed there as well.

“It was necessary to flood (well, parts of) the city in order to save it.”*

Eek.

*Not a real quote, of course

We made it through unscathed (so far). My poor city. It is unspeakably sad.

it sure is heartbreaking to watch the video. Rebo, how long will you be OK do you think? do you have any idea?

First responders are doing well, and I think looters should be shot on sight.

My sister and her family living Sugar Land, just southwest of Houston. I called her yesterday afternoon to see how they were doing. She said that there was no flooding on their street, but that the creek behind their house was over its banks.

Well, this morning they found out they’re under a mandatory evacuation. Unfortunately, the streets around them are impassible; they’re stuck there until the water goes down. Luckily they’re in a two-story house, and have plenty of food and water… and power, for now.

Even this one?

Cute baby!

Okay, I spoke out of turn. If someone is grabbing food or diapers or baby formula from a store I MIGHT give them a pass. But if you’re breaking into people’s houses during a natural catastrophe to grab the HDTV and laptops, well, then, I have zero empathy for you.

The photos and video and stories are awful. Been thinking about dopers and anyone else caught-up in this. Horrible, just horrible. Everyone be safe.

My sister and family who live in Rockport evacuated on Thursday. They just heard today that their house appears to be intact and not flooded so that was a bit of good news. Unfortunately the city is saying it may be 30 - 45 days before electricity, clean water and sewer services are restored. They are telling people they should not come back at this time.

Anyone w/ damage to their home should file w/ their homeowners insurance by September 1st; that’s* this Friday*. Texas legislators recently voted for changes that could penalize those w/ a claim.
