I am having all kinds of trouble. Logging in, staying logged in, having the new site accept my new password. And no one is helping me. No one is answering my emails, etc. Anyone who knows me, knows that I rarely complain. But it’s true:). Am I doing something wrong?
Just saying, I’m in the same boat. Wouldn’t even be putting this much effort into it if I weren’t tied to my work computer w/ precious little to do.

I found this somewhere but don’t remember where. The directions were something like: in the upper right, click on your avatar (mine is just L, no photo). Then click on your user name. Then you scroll down to a cog…click on that. Then you click for them to send you a link which takes you to a screen that asks you to input your new password.
Worked for me. Not for you?

Oh, good. No one knew exactly what to do. The with email seems to be the key to getting logged in.
Give it a month or two. Your emails are among thousands.
I did all this and for some reason it let me keep my old password. So I didn’t change it.
Your “old password” doesn’t exist as far as this new site is concerned, so you can reuse it as long as it meets the rules.
TubaDiva is literally working around the clock to fix the issues. I was emailing back and forth with her at 4:30am this morning. I was up because I work nights and have problems living like a human on my days off. She was up because she was fixing problems. Please have patience it’s a big undertaking.
The OP is obviously signed in. He’s posting. I wonder what other problems he’s having?

I didn’t do that, though.
I think I tried ‘log in’, and put in my user name, expecting a prompt to change password. I didn’t get a prompt, and my password didn’t work, and it looked like I had a choice between ‘create new account’ and ‘forgot my password’. I remembered TubaDiva said not to create a new account, so I tried the ‘forgot password’ link. That got me an email sent to the address which goes with that user name, which had a link to a page on which I could put in a new password. Did that, and there I was.
I was so confused I think I signed in with email Then I saw a no emails will be sent warning. But I did get an email with the link embedded in it.
I’m still logging on with that link. I’m looking for a way to add an app to my tablet and phone. I havn’t even tried the laptop yet.
Oh, I found the onscreen app. Love it!!
This exactly how I got in. Had the same expectations as you of how the initial login would go down.

It took me a few tries to get it right. I think I was mis-interpreting the instructions a little bit. I wonder how many other users might have been making the same mistake I did.
I tried to log in at this new site. On the log-in box, I entered my user name and, for lack of any more obvious action, clicked on “Forgot my password”.
Here is where the confusion arose: This brought up another box which said “An e-mail will be sent with a confirmation link” (or something like that), and a big OK button at the bottom. I thought this meant I should go look for that e-mail, and come back when I had the confirmation and then click on that OK button.
I waited and waited, and no e-mail. Finally I figured out that I’m supposed to click on that big OK button first, and THEN it sends me that e-mail. (And yes, when it finally showed up, it was in my spam folder, but I knew that was a possibility.) So I wonder how many others made that same trivial mistake I did.
It’s been a HUGE PITA for me. I succeeded in logging in on my work computer yesterday, but I could not get on from home later the same day. Then this AM I had to go thru the whole first time log-in rigamarole, plus a few unsuccessful side-quests, before finally waiting for a return email, to get in from my work computer again.
I appreciate the help from Tubadiva and others, but don’t understand why this whole thing is not just a ‘one and done’ process. And I do hope I won’t be restricted to one device for accessing.
In the end, you’ll be able to use multiple devices. I’ve already used 3 different ones. A Samsung, a PC and a laptop. Did you successful create a password for this board? Once that is done, username Qadgop_the_Mercotan & password should be enough.
It is possible you logged on by email only and never set the password for your revised username.
If you use your phone, it is the smoothest thing in the world. Viewing the SDMB in the old format on the phone was cumbersome.
