Which I am sure comes as no big surprise to most of you who read my posts.
However, the reason I am an SDMB idiot is that I never realized I had “private messages” here on the board!
I have been here since July of 2001 and you would think that, oh, I donno, somewhere in the past seven years I might have noticed that little line up above mentioning I had private messages?!
Seriously - I had messages that were over a year old!
To anyone who sent me a message in the past that I never responded to, my deepest apologies!
Geez, next thing you know they will be telling me you can search threads or somethin’. Damn newfangled technology…
In your user Control Panel (User CP), on teh left navigation collum is a heading “private messages”/ Also, under your user name on the upper right is the Private messages link showing unread and total messages.
You need to have Private Messages turned on (under options) to received them.
Actually, apparently it means that you have private messages disabled. You have to turn them on in the user control panel before the link actually shows up. I just now tried to find mine, and I got an error message indicating same when I clicked Q.E.D.'s link. I too had no idea we had private messages.
When I get a PM (private message) I get an email notification that I have one. Also, when I go to the dope, I get a pop up message telling me I have a private message.
I knew about PMs, but I didn’t notice this option. Now it’s activated, which is good, because I’ve been known to go days without noticing that I have a message. Not that it’s a big deal - I get them so rarely.
After opening this thread, I noticed I had one PM. It was only a day old too. I never had paid attention to the PM button because I assumed I would never get one. Surprise!
