I am the ultimate thread killer

I was bored earlier so I decided to see how many threads I was the last to post to.I have a measly little post count of 464 (465 after I post this) I’ve killed 30 of those threads!! Wow I must really suck (either that, or I’m so enlightened that no one can top my posts) In fact I killed two threads today alone. Can anyone top my percentage? I doubt it. Feel free to try.

[sub]Knowing my thread killing ability, I’m sure this will die a quick death and give my little ego a bigger kick in the teeth[/sub]

No argument.

Oops, now you have to post again.

What if someone decided to go around resurrecting all the posts you’ve supposedly killed? Would that make you feel invalidated? Just a thought.

Stirctly searching for my name and then counting how many times my name appeard as last post I have 52. I was really surprised that on one of them I was the 192nd post, and then they just…stopped.

Actually, I do occasionally get the feeling that my posts are invisible. If I start a new thread, I get no replies, if I reply, I get ignored. So kinda similar, in a way.

For those of you inclined to search the board on occassion, many have claimed the title of Ultimate Thread Killer (e.g. this one) . There is even a statistic specifically designed to capture your killer ability.

At a measely Thread Kill Percentage of 6% (30/465), Qwisp, you aren’t in the same league as posters in that previous thread. TKPs as high as 20% have been seen in the past.

I’m willing to bet that the people who have killed threads to a rate of 20% are probably prolific posters, and have killed a lot of those threads due to pure chance. While I on the other hand put a hex on all most threads entered.

I probably should apologize though, I started this thread out of boredom. It was meant as tongue-in-cheek humor. Not as a call for attention.
[sub] You do all realize now that I’ve posted again, I’ve yet again given myself a chance to kill this thread.(I wonder if it counts if I kill my own thread??[/sub]

I have a theory that the higher your post count in total the lower your post killing average (just because the more people are exposed to you the more willing they are to make off-hand or off-topic comments to your posts).

I have a massive post killing percentage (but I’ve only posted a tiny bit), something damn close to 50% (I’m not doing the math because I’m at work and should be doing some real stats instead of this).

So, I’ll help us both out. With this post I’m making sure you aren’t the last to post here, and upping my posting total a little at the same time.

Thread killing isn’t necessarily something to be ashamed of. You may have just put a killer post together that nails the OP completely without leaving room for any comeback or further debate. It’s an measure of your Ignorance Fighting prowess. Other Dopers read your post and either throw their hands up in defeat or bow in silent admiration.

Well, that’s what I tell myself.

Mallocks, I’m quoting you so that you won’t feel ignored in this thread, and to up my thread kill count (assuming this is the last post).

Naturally, saying the above guarantees that someone will post a followup.

i don’t have anything to say… i just had to do it

ooooh! Futile that’s brilliant! Mind if I convince myself of the very same thing?

Do you think we could maybe enlist one of you seasoned thread killers to finish off the never-ending Spit or Swallow wank fest? You’d be doing the board a favor, and you’d get a chance to use your thread assassination skills for good, instead of evil.

Silly as it may sound, I always feel a little bad when I kill a thread. Like walking towards a group of giggling girls in school and having them suddenly fall silent. Is it my breath? My glasses? Am I really that lame?

But I don’t think I’ve killed 20% of the threads I’ve posted in, so maybe I’m just overly self-conscious about these things.

Phoo, that’s no record, I’ve closed more threads than that.

I think I’m going to calculate my percentage right now, because I’m curious.

Anyway, I find that the key to killing threads (not that I usually want to) is twofold:
(a) thinking harder about a subject than is really called for
(b) writing at much greater length on a subject than anyone else on the thread.

I think this is because, with a really long pointlessly over-thought post, people are reluctant to read it, and thus won’t usually reply, and reluctant to say anything else without reading it. Just a thought though.

A question - should your thread killing percentage be the amount of threads you’ve killed (k) divided by the amount of times you’ve posted §, or k divided by the amount of threads you’ve posted in (t)? It seems to me that k/t is more relevant than k/p, but maybe I’m just overthinking this and should shut up now.

I believe that the standard definition is k/p rather than k/t. In another MPSIMS thread, you will find stats like the drive by posting percentage (t/p).

On further thought k/t could be a fun number too. I imagine that k/t would be a lot higher for most people. Unless they have a high drive by percentage… Where’s that stats book and who has access to the database?
