I didn't get the job. =:^(

A couple of weeks ago I applied for a position with the company that had just laid me off. (Different location, different job.) I called the recruiter today, and was told that I’m not getting it. I’m still unemployed, and there is nothing on the horizon. :frowning:

Sunday I’m loading up a small trailer and moving half of my stuff up to my new house. When I get back I’ll take my bed apart, pack up the kitchen, and get another trailer to move the other half of my stuff. I was hoping to have my BIL pull the motorcycles up for me, but it looks like that will turn into a “family vacation” (i.e., him, my sister, and my nephew). I don’t know if that’s going to work, since my nephew can’t miss anymore preschool. I may end up making another trip.

Anyway, the good news is that I’m finally getting out of California. It’s scary being out of work, but I can’t pay for the house and an apartment. So Birch Bay, WA will have another resident. That will make Nymysys and her husband and Scotticher happy. And I’ll be glad to have rain and cold weather. It will be nice hanging out with my best fiend for a while as well.

I did a job search on monster this morning, and there is very little in Bellingham. Mostly retail stuff. I’ll definitely be looking for work soon though!

Wish me luck.

Sorry to hear that. The job I applied for recieved 1500 applications so I’m guessing I didn’t get it aswell. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck man!

I forgot to say that I got a call from a former co-worker before I called to ask if I got the position. He didn’t get the position either. I presume the other guy who applied there also didn’t get it. :frowning:

Sorry to hear that Johnny. We will definately miss you here in SoCal. But our loss is Washington’s gain. Woohoo, look out Pacific Northwest! There’s trouble a coming!

What a bummer Johnny L.A.! I’m so sorry!!!

Will you be taking time out of your schedule for an impromtu fairwell dopefest? perhaps at Ye Olde Kings Head?

Sheeseh…going to miss you :frowning:

Yep, a Final Supper of Ye Olde King’s Head fish’n’chips (or bangers!) would be great. The seafood in Washington is fantastic, but I’ve never had fish’n’chips like at the King’s Head!

Here’s the schedule: Sunday I head north with the first load. I should be back Thursday or Friday (or so). I have a dentist’s appointment in Santa Monica on the 11th. Then I might make another trip up the following week and Thanksgiving week. Either that, or I’ll get my BIL (and family – ooh, by friend is going to love that!) to follow me up Thanksgiving week. Trailers are cheaper Sunday through Thursday, so that’s when I’ll be travelling.

Tried to email you Johnny L.A.. Did it work?

I’m really sorry you didn’t get the job, but I know you really want to be in Washington. So I guess you could consider this the boot in the butt to make it happen. I’m sure you’ll do just fine once you get settled in.

Best of luck to ya!

cadolphin: Got it!

well, johnny, seeing the pictures of so cal lately, i think getting out of town is a really good idea.

i hope things go well in wa, and that you find your dream job quickly.

Good Luck Johnny L.A.!!! I hope it works out for you!!

This is too weird. Johnny I’m sorry to hear about your job (even though you don’t know me for a road tit)
As I read your thread, my first thought was “welcome to Washington” I too, came to WA when my job fell through in San Diego. (Of course I was born here… but that another thread)
Then I noticed the mention of Ye Olde King’s Head. Is it in Santa Monica? Where everyone whose anyone goes to play darts? If so, you (all of you who go there) may have known my son, Michael. He stopped going there a few years ago. He died in 2000. I met several people who hung out there. I learned to play darts there.
Small world… [sub]However, I’m not going to paint it again…[/sub]

Hi, picunurse. Yes, Ye Olde King’s Head is in Santa Monica. 2nd Street and Santa Monica Blvd. Great place. I never met your son, as I tend to sit by myself (or with Dopers!) when I’m there. Please accept my very late condolences for your loss. :frowning:

I don’t know what kind of work I can get in the Blaine/Birch Bay/ Bellingham area. I’ll be looking as far south as Federal Way. (If need be, I’ll rent an apartment and just use the house on weekends.) If any Seattle Dopers know of anyone who is hiring a Data Management Specialist (a fancy name for someone who processes and analyzes accounts receivable data, works with JCL, and writes programs using Easytrieve Plus), please let me know!

Cully-fornya’s loss is Washington’s gain. Maybe you’ll even have a somewhat normal governor there.

Very best of luck to you, and have a safe trip(s).

Johnny I’ll certainly keep my ears open. I retired early and my husband is a firefighter so not much help here. I worked for an office machine wholesaler for a while, their accounts receivable person is older than Og, so maybe… I never liked her anyway… Kidding.
At least your cold and rainy dreams will be answered. Its well… cold and rainy here.
Good Luck.

Bummer about the job, Johnny – I’m sure something will work out, because I’m going to dedicate my lucky socks to the job. I don’t wear them for just any old mission, you know.

Thanks, twickster. I can really use some luck now! For some strange reason, Magic 8 Ball is certain the company will offer me a job. The smoke must be obscuring its vision.

On the other hand, I didn’t ask Magic 8 Ball when they would offer me a job! :stuck_out_tongue:

You’ll catch the next one! We’re rooting for you. Would references from us complimenting your witty posts on the SDMB help?
Good luck!

Blonde:  I needed that.

There sure are a lot of us out of work on these boards!

cadolphin has started a thread for my going-away Dopefest.
