You didn’t see that many odd couple matches on TV in those days and people did seem to think it was unbelievable that they’d go out together in the beginning. After it came out that they were married they appeard on a few TV shows talking about it. The whole cast was on Phil Donahue with the other couple on the show that was married and they all talked about it. In 1986 you couldn’t exactly google a name and find out info like you can now.
They added the bit about the Venus Butterfly and it was pretty funny. Because they seemed like such an odd couple it added to the appeal.

I just thought of one, though it didn’t involve marriage. It’s long been over, but for a while there Peter Gabriel and Rosanna Arquette were quite the item. I think there was a clanking sound by my jaw hitting the floor when I found that out. I believe Peter Gabriel and Sinead O’Connor had a brief fling too.
She must have a thing for musicians. The song Rosanna was written about Rosanna Arquette by Steve Pocaro of the group Toto. I don’t think they were actually married but they were together.
