What the heck is going on in the second panel? At first I thought Emily was holding a bottle, they it looked like a bong, and on final look it appears to be a bag of some sort. Are they huffing or something?
At first I thought huffing, but I think it’s actually that she gave herself a haircut and holding the hair in her hand. She is awfully red, but maybe that’s because she’s drunk.

I think they’re playing Mafia and those are pieces of paper with private messages, their role assignments, etc. We usually have a Mafia game of one kind or another running in the Game Room here.

I confess that I’m not up on terminology. What does it mean when she says that she’s “trans”. That she’s a guy who feels like she should be a girl, or a girl that feels like she should be a guy, or something else entirely.
Wishing for ignorance to be fought here.
I’m not an expert either, but I understand it to mean that biologically/anatomically she is (or was) male, but self-identifies as female. She may have taken advantage of hormones, surgery, etc. to more closely align her body with her gender identification or she may just do it with clothes/hairstyle etc. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it in future strips.

Some people on the QC Forum have speculated that Clare’s transition explains why she is still in college at 24. She would have taken some time off from her education to deal with the issues involved in that.
Technically, it could mean either, but in this context, it almost certainly means Claire was born male, and now identifies as female.
