Re the gamer girl in the "Questionable Content" web comic. Are those zits or freckles on her face?

Here

and here

My guess is zits.

Zits. She has a hygiene problem.

And a diet that would give a hummingbird diabetes.

I’m pretty sure that Marigold has both pimples and a mole. Under her right eye (her right, our left) there’s a dot that’s darker and larger than most of the others, seemingly a mole, but the rest of the dots are red, so… pimples.

I can’t find any examples, but I’m pretty sure Jeph Jacques has drawn freckled characters before, and the dots are much less red.

I’m going to have to say “Zits” as well.

By the way, is anyone getting a vibe between her and Hanners? Granted, Hanners is way too OCD to even think about the sex thing, but man, it seems like there’s a hookup in the works.

I follow it through an RSS feed and the comments to the feed I follow are full of Hannelore and Marigold shippers, so you’re not the only one.

Look at the gamer girl’s nose, and compare that to the nose of the blonde girl. See how much that one simple feature can be the difference between cute and homely. A pointy little nose on the gamer girl, and the whole character’s aesthetic would immediately change, the zits notwithstanding.

Someone in that thread about manga and anime argued (against me) that the eyes and mouth are the most defining features of the human face. I say bullshit. It’s the nose, and nothing illustrates this better than that comic.

Frankly, considering Marigold’s personal and home hygiene problems, I’m constantly surprised that Hanners can even be in that apartment. Then again, the Hanners of today is a very different Hanners than the one who went out to the bar by herself the night she met Marten.

I’ve always hoped so. It would be sweet beyond sweet.

Well, the ‘cute’ one is also slimmer, and taller, has blond hair and no glasses. All classic cues that she’s supposed to be the hot one (she’s even allowed to have smaller breasts as long as they’re perkier – check out the shadows). It’d be interesting to see them switch noses to test your theory.

Oh, and definitely acne. Freckles tend to be drawn in cute little clusters by the cheeks and nose. Not that they, or birth marks, don’t exist anywhere else.

I don’t think that’s the case. Based on commentary, the “hot” one in QC seems to be Faye (though I’ll admit Hanners, the blonde, is my favorite) and she is short, plump, brunette, and wears glasses.

With giant…

I mean, she has enormous…

Well, let’s just say both Faye and Marigold possess an awful lot of real estate.

I’ve been expecting it ever since he introduced the character.

Faye doesn’t seem to be particularly ‘plump’. She’s got wide hips and yes, large breasts, but she seems fairly fit.
This strip has a good comparison, this one is more recent. She’s not as skinny as the other girls in the gym, but her thighs, arms, and neck seem pretty close in thickness to theirs. So it’s no surprise that she’s considered attractive with her exaggerated attributes.

The noses in the second comic I linked to are interesting - Marigold is somewhat similar to Faye in body shape, but Faye’s got a cute upturned nose.

I’m basing the plumpness based on in-comic dialogue that I’m too lazy to look up to cite, and specifically I used that term instead of fat because I don’t think she’s very overweight, and fat seems to mean obese to most people nowadays.

In several strips Faye has noted/commented that she’s more pudgy than she would like so I don’t really consider her “fit”. Faye is a bit busty but she’s hardly “enormous” by any standard.

Notice her brother’s nose.

Pretty sure they’re just roommates, not siblings.

Although I just noticed the BLOOD + THUNDER on the chalkboard in that strip. He’s definitely cranking up the WoW jokes with Marigold around.
