I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

Well, most of their interaction, pre-romance, involved him delivering pizza. In other words, she was calling him. His attempts to “connect” with her in WoW always struck me as a simple attempt to establish a rapport around a common interest. (And remember, she completely ROFLstomped him in PvP!)

Yeah, that’s where I noticed it, too. For a minute, i thought it was another guest strip.

Same here, since everyone and their dog seems to be running guest strips the last few weeks (convention season, I guess). Then, like I said, I thought maybe he was just away from his usual tools and putting out a sloppier product on the fly. Wouldn’t have guessed that it was an intentional “style”.

One unusual thing I just noticed looking at last week’s strips is Tuesday’s strip didn’t have shadows. All of the other strips did, including Monday’s which was drawn in the old style and Wednesday’s which is in the new style. It makes me wonder if he’s just experimenting this week.

JJ’s going for it!

Had me grinning all morning, considering using that same line with with a coworker

Wasn’t that the cutest blush?

I’m calling a Friday cliffhanger:

They’re out as a couple to the group, everyone’s all excited, and then Thai fires Martin.

And you think all that is going to happen by Friday? That’s like four months worth of strips for QC.

I don’t think he’s going to have an issue with Tai. The real problem may be with Emily.

I said a Friday.
But yeah, Emily is a bit insane.

Have to admit, I was puzzled by this development. It was only a couple of days ago (strip time) that Marten was worrying about the ethical implications of being pecked on the cheek by a (different) intern. Now granted, they’re both flunkies in a university library, so no one cares, but seems odd.

Both that and, really, Marten hasn’t really shown any particular interest in any of the interns. Claire was all flustered over Marten at the wedding but Marten’s concern about the post-reception cuddle was if Claire thought anything of it. Compared to his immediate spiral of doubt and self-loathing a couple weeks later when some random one-night stand didn’t want to see him again.

Today’s (well, the last couple) days strips seemed to come out of nowhere.

I like the strip but I do feel that Jacques does not put a lot of planning into the stories. It often seems like he’s bored and just randomly invents something like turning two characters into a couple or breaking a couple up or introducing a new character or some other out-of-the-blue plot twist.

Lol. Well played.

I suppose Jeph could go that way, but right now she’s more sweet and (very) flighty. I actually find her to be one of the funnier characters and prefer her to Claire.

She is sweet, but I’m reminded about how mad she got when Claire stole her “give peas a chance” pun. And now Claire stole her man!

Agreed. And frankly, I find Emily a far more interesting character. Claire just comes off a bit Mary Sue-ish. I think she’s great, but this is absurdly out of nowhere - especially after the hand-wringing Marten went through with Emily recently.

I follow Jeph on Twitter, and he’s been going through some issues lately - I really think this is just a way for him to put something completely fresh on the page and sort of start over. But it’s sloppy, especially for something that’s going to get him some new eyeballs on his strip.

Forgot about that.

Yeah, I re-read the wedding strips because I thought maybe I was being unfair and the signs were there but it’s always just Claire getting super flustered to interact with Marten and Marten being somewhere between oblivious and bemused. His reaction to the cuddling wasn’t one of veiled interest, either. Compared to his insanity after the one girl he slept with (whose name I’m too lazy to look for), he’s positively blasé about this girl he supposedly likes.

Anyway, whatever. But I agree with it being out of nowhere.

You must remember that Emily really looks up to Claire and is in fact the only other character in the series that knows Claire is trans.

Which means she will probably blurt out something dumb but not out of malice.

Besides Clinton (and now their Mom, presumably), that is.
