I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

Faye’s a busy girlie. She has no time for chitchat. “Here’s the password, Giant Red Robot Bitch! See? I belong.”

Sometimes Jeph doesn’t include all the panels, because he figures we’re smart enough to get it, or at least if someone wants Between Failures they know where to find it.

Got an example of when he’s done this before?

All of them? If he included “all the panels,” it would be a cartoon, not a comic.

That’s a pretty disingenuous response.

I don’t think my observation is unreasonable - there appears to be an error in the dialogue. An extremely minor one, but one nonetheless. Responding with “1-2-3-4-5-6-7” to “Can I help you?” isn’t “figuring we’re smart enough” to figure out that Bubbles said something akin to “how did you get in here?”, it’s just a writing lapse. Jeph indicated on Twitter that day that he’d had an incredibly terrible day personally, and also apologized for the strip he published the next day for being pretty lazy. I don’t think it’s a big stretch to think that maybe this one just wasn’t up to snuff either.

A little bit, yeah, but in fairness, more to the guy who said Jeph “doesn’t include all the panels.”

I just disagree. I was honestly more confused by your question if we had found anything confusing about the dialogue. The comic seemed entirely straight forward to me.

I also don’t see the confusion. We’ve already been told that Pintsize knows somebody in the underground robot fighting business. Faye knows welding and is looking for a job.

So Faye goes up to the door of the underground fight club. The doorman stops her and Faye gives the doorman the password.

How is this confusing?

Agree. I just saw it as Faye having no patience and is skipping a few steps: “Here’s the password, no need for us to get bogged down in conversation, let’s get going.”

I was! But Father Fisher never taught us about

Let me be clear - I did not find it confusing. I clearly understood what was going on.

No, the doorman did not stop her - Bubbles asked Faye what it could do for her. That’s well past needing to know that Faye knows the password. She’s already in there - she knows the password. Do you respond to the cashier at the grocery store with “I came in through the front door” when they ask “Can I help you?” It is, to my ear, a non-sequitur at that point.

It’s an underground fighting club, they’re not going to advertise it. If you don’t know that it exists, and don’t know the password, no-one’s going to ask you for it…

Maybe that’s the issue we’re not seeing the same. I don’t feel Faye has really gotten inside the fight club. She may be in off the street but I feel Bubbles’ job is to keep people from going inside the real fight club. There’s certainly no sign of any robot fighting going on in the room where Faye and Bubbles are talking. Bubbles is questioning Faye to see if she’ll be let in. Faye passed the first test by knowing the password. Now she has to pass the second test by convincing Bubbles she has a good reason to be allowed inside to talk to the manager.

Snowboarder Bo has to be happy with Monday’s strip

If you look at the first panel of the strip, she’s walking across what appears to be the fighting octagon, with a few pieces of broken robots in the lower left corner. But I agree, until she gives the password, she’s not getting any further in, or getting any sort of confirmation that there is a robot fight club.

Asking whether she can fix a crushed chest plate or a frozen joint before a crucial bout seem pretty clear to me they aren’t denying too much from her.

You mean other than the fact that she already gave the password somewhere, otherwise she a) wouldn’t know it and b) wouldn’t know jack about how shitty their password system is?

This makes no sense.

‘You will only know the password after you give it’ is an even shittier system than one where the password is ‘1 2 3 4 5 6 7’.

It’s actually psychotically ‘this isn’t actually a password’ shitty, rather than lazy ‘eh, nobody will bother to try that’ shitty.

She knows the password because Pintsize told her, because that’s how you get into somewhere with a password.

She knows the password system is shitty, because the password is ‘1 2 3 4 5 6 7’.

She’s talking to the person she has to give the password to.

Regardless of the clumsy entrance, to be honest I don’t give a rat’s ass about this storyline. Can we maybe focus on the other characters rather than introducing new one (who will be dropped in 9 months)?

WTH? Someone else, presumably Pintsize, told her the password. She realized 1234567 is a shitty password, because that’s obvious (though it isnt’ actually a shitty password).

Here’s the system as it appears to me:

Anyone can walk into the building. Bubbles asks you if she can help you. If you know the password, you just tell her. She never asks for the password, because that would admit there’s something secret going on there. If you ask about the robot fights before giving her the password, she denies any knowledge of such, tells you they’re renovating the skate park, and asks you to leave.

Looks like Jeph is giving up the Yelling Bird strips.
