I’m making aspara nikumaki for dinner tonight. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to an Asian market so I have to make-do with whatever beef I can get at the supermarket. It’s too thick, so I have to pound it, and too small, so I have to stretch it. Results vary. Tonight I couldn’t get rectangular pieces of beef, and the thinning process made it tear; so the asparagus is exposed at some points. It will still taste good, but cutting into ‘California rolls’ will be problematic. I’ve mixed up some more mayo/sesame dressing, and we have Spring mix for a salad and I’m cooking rice.
Well, Mumper of course!
Or FCB
Oh, yeah… I make a good dinner.
The boat should be named RoxStar, of course.
Although, Toby may feel slighted. Will there be a lifeboat?
You can get both vaccinations and oil changes at some Walmarts.
Watched hockey with J and Canadian Dave, made Asian BBQ stir fry for dinner. Watching F1 practice.
Make sure they don’t mix up the 2.
Kobayashi Maru.
You know those people who keep getting into relationships with bad people, even though their Aunt Minnie warned them, “You’ll end up with your heart all broke, just like all the other times”? You know how the suckers always say, 'But ____seemed so nice!"? How many times have I been suckered by the sun into deciding to go out without an umbrella? Way too many. I blithely went out sans bumbershoot because I saw sunshine and blue sky. Got out of the store, and it was pouring, just as the weather service, aka Aunt Minnie, predicted. Somewhere the sun is chortling. Probably going to try to sell me ivermectin to prevent COVID.
I’m drier but no wiser.
PSA:
Standard time starts in most places tonight, so Fall Back. Unless you drink yoo luch tequila, then fall forward.
Unpleasant ways to wake:
- Fire alarm
- Loved one crying for help
- Sudden realization that your liquid-filled bowels are about to empty in your bed.
Guess how I woke this morning! Go ahead - guess!! I narrowed the possible cause to two items I ate that no one else had - the mashed potatoes at Dickie’s and the pumpkin pie flavored greek yogurt from Aldi. I think I’m past the worst of it and I’m pretty sure the bed is fine, tho I wasn’t going to turn on the light and wake FCD. Meanwhile, I’m showered, dressed, and I had some cheese for breakfast, because, well, you know…
Plans for the day: nothing. I may tread the mill. I expect FCD will watch TV in the hopes of Washington losing and Dallas winning. But mostly, nothing. I’m not even dressed to venture forth - wearing too-big sweat pants, a mock turtleneck, and slippers. I should like a day of sheer chillage.
And so it begins - I reset 3 clocks. There are at least 6 more to go. I think. Plus the 3 I reset are slightly off anyway, so they’ll need to be redone. One shouldn’t guess about the time, right?
Happy Sunday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 43 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. Fall in the Southern U.S. of A. The big plan of the day is deheathenization (‘tis All Saints Sunday), and Vestry meetin’ afterward. I foresee an afternoon/evenin’ of nuttin’ after all that. Any need to feed will be via forage.
MOOOOOOM YIKES! Glad you’re through the worst of it anyway.
I reset all the needed to be reset clocks before bedtime last night. The clocks in the vehicles will get set this mornin’. I woke up to daylight which felt weird.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Mooooooom, definitely a day to stay in (and close to the bathroom). Feel better soonest.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and ready to do KP, prep breakfasts / lunches and put some chili in the crockpot.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall watch handegg and clean. Somebody’s mutt was running loose when I took out Gordie this morning. He seemed friendly, but Gordie was having none of it. I hope the neighbors weren’t planning on sleeping in.
- Sudden realiazation that a small fuzzy creature is about to empty its bowels on your bed.
But feel better soonest, Moooommmm!
swampy, I reset my at midnight. although 90% of my clocks reset themselves. Except for the clock radio, which updates time from the National Time Service people, and is stubbornly believing it is still DST. But it also lives 50min in the future on a good day. Daft little bugger.
- That unmistakable “hurk hurk” noise from a cat perched on your headboard with head poised over a sleeping human face.
- Very loud “sploosh” coming from a bathroom known to be unoccupied (that one turned out to be a water leak from the apartment above).
- Coughing on a throat full of something acidic. Bonus points for smell/taste of vomit.
I think everything has settled. I’ve breakfasted and caffeinated, I fed FCD, I’ve tended the critters - Looks like I’ve pretty much purged whatever was distressing my system.
I shall now attack the clocks. Get it out of the way so proper chillage and slothage can begin in earnest.
Good morning everyone.
None of those scenarios sound pleasant in the least little bit. I’m glad things seem to have settled, FCM.
Went to the HOA meeting, still not settled on a President because some people who agreed to show up didn’t show up. We have a new Treasurer, but not even she showed up. There was a little pressure for me to be the President, but I want nothing to do with it and firmly refused. I guess we’ll know more a little later.
The weather was fairly pleasant for fall here yesterday until around 3:30 or 4:00 when the winds came in, and it hailed some much it looked like snow had fallen. Then there was rain. After that it all quieted down again. It’s currently a brisk 37 degrees with an expected high of 40. I may, or may not leave the house today; I am undecided. I have laundry which needs doing too.
I don’t have a single clock that I need to set, other than my oven clock which is always off. My alarm clock is always a little wonky too, so I’ll need to double-check that one tonight. It’s supposed to automatically switch over, but we shall see.
Hello, all. I haz a bit of resigned grumpiness - not a fan of the time change. Too much idle time before work, but then, it’s dark before I even leave. I want the opposite!
Plus all that early morning light wakes me up too early. Messes with my schedules, it does!
Yesterday was the first Good Day I’ve had in a while, thanks to drinks out with my friend + other friend recuperating well from her sudden loss + my dad having a pleasant chat with me.
… which pins too much of my happiness onto other people. That’s dangerous. Hmmmm.
Well, anyway, at least I’m going into work today with my shoulders back & my chin up … as opposed to slinking in feeling (and looking) like a beaten dog, which was pretty much all of last week.
Everyone have a good day at work, or at slothage, or deheathenization, or whatever all y’all got going on today.
Apparently, Washingtonians want to stay on Daylight Saving Time year-round. (I didn’t vote for it! I never saw it on a ballot.) I think it’s a stupid idea. It offends my sense of order. We are no longer an agrarian country. We don’t need the extra daylight. But consider this:
We’ve been on DST. I posted yesterday that it was still dark at 0700. Last night the Sun went down well before six. Switching to year-round DST won’t accomplish anything. People will still leave for work in the dark, and come home in the dark.
Here’s the kicker: If we stayed on DST, the sunrise on the shortest day of the year would be nine in the morning! And sunset would four twenty in the afternoon! With less than eight hours of daylight anyway, what’s the point of DST? It’s almost as if people don’t understand science an’ shite.
Cue my semi-annual “standard, daylight, split the difference, pick something else altogether, I don’t care, just pick something and STICK WITH IT!!!” rant.
It really doesn’t matter to me what label gets slapped on some chunk of the earth’s rotation, I just think all the hassle of changing over is a colossal and unneeded pain, and I do NOT enjoy having to sort pets out on revised meal schedules.
I remember something about the time change being on the ballot. I prefer Standard Time. I think people just get confused because “daylight” is in the title and think that’s the best thing. It isn’t.
That’s where my ‘sense of order’ comes in. Local noon should be when the Sun is at its apex. Since we live in a world where each location cannot have its time set to 1200 when the Sun is highest because time zones are so broad, local noon should be as close to 12 o’clock high as practical. At my location, local noon on 21 December, Pacific Standard Time, will be 12:09:09. That’s pretty close to 1200. ‘Noon’ being at 13:09:09 doesn’t make sense to me.
Pacific Time is GMT-8:00. Not GMT-7:00, not GMT-7 hours, 30 minutes. It’s GMT-8:00.
