I Fall To Pieces: An Autumn MMP

Morning all. Soccer lasted from 8:30am to 9pm yesterday (wasn’t coaching or reffeeing the entire time, but there was never a long-enough break to get home). Did reset the clocks that don’t automatically reset, except for the big living room clock that I need to climb on a ladder for (that’ll be later today). Still a bit sore and weary from yesterday, but have one more game to referee at 1:15pm, then the Fall season will be done (indoor soccer starts in December…). At least the weather was clear and got into the 60’sF, and today is supposed to be the same, so there is that. Had to day goodbye to the boys soccer team, will miss them, we didn’t win much but they did have fun and learned a lot, I think, and the parents seemed pretty happy. That’s all one cas ask, I think.

Have read all but not in shape to absorb much, so best of wishes for a great Sunday to all.

I, OTOH, have absolutely zero problems with DST. Not even in the Top 1000 of “Things That Piss Me Off.”

Mooooom - Hope you feel better soon. But really, that’s kind of what you should expect when you eat at a chain as lousy as Dickie’s.

Pixel, of course, totally ignored the time change and was poking the back of my head for breakfast at a truly ungodly hour this morning. Then she got Tango to join her. So I am up, showered, the cats are fed and now I’m off to pick up breakfast at a local Mexican place. I started to say “the” local Mexican place, but there are actually 4 of them on that block. But only one is open 24/7, so they get my custom.

Hope everybody has a wonderful Sunday!

I don’t think I can blame the restaurant - FCD had no ill effects. I’m inclined to think it was the yogurt - I noticed an odd flavor, but pumpkin spice can be a matter of opinion, so I thought that might have been the case. Maybe not. Regardless, I think I’m past the crisis.

We’re taking a ride up towards Annapolis to look at another boat today. Similar to the one we saw yesterday, but apparently this one has had a lot of work done to it in the last 3 or 4 years. Of course, they’re asking a lot more, too. But it doesn’t cost to look… well, except for the gas to drive there.

Other than that, sloth has reigned.

I always thought yogurt was already bad. Sorta like sour cream.

But glad to see it’s going away.

[Dean Wormer]Then from this moment forward, it’s on Double Secret Spoilage![/Dean Wormer]

I’ve read every word in the 225 preceding posts, and I just wanna say: I  you guys. You’re all good people, smart, and funny. I may not have the wherewithal to post every day but I always read every day, and you Mumpers make me happy!

Junior high (7th & 8th grades) is super memorable and positive for me because my family was living in England at the time. We were in North Yorkshire, near Harrogate, living in a small town (vs on a base). I went to Catholic schools for elementary school, high school, and college, except for kindergarten, 1st grade, and those two years we spent in the UK. My first kiss was with a British lad, and my first mutual crush was a (different) Brit – though by the time we realized that we were both interested, I had to go back to the States. (Martin Hall, I hope you’re having a good life wherever you are!) And every Saturday night, my school’s gym turned into a roller rink. Good times.

The main news with me is that my pre-op diet starts tomorrow – which means surgery is just two weeks away!! Last week I ordered all of the product I’ll need, and I picked it up on Friday afternoon: two big containers of meal-replacement-shake powder (different flavors), a medium-sized cannister of protein-rich-soup powder, and 12 protein bars. They call it a liquid diet, but in addition to the shakes and soup I’m supposed to have one of the bars and either a banana or a cup of skim milk (I choose the former). I can also have up to three servings of sugar-free gelatin/popsicles each day. Everything but the shakes and soup have to stop two days before surgery, though.

The past 1-2 weeks have been pretty much food free-for-alls; I’ve had a lot of favorites for the last time. For example, breakfast today was Pillsbury crescent rolls and a glass of eggnog. This afternoon I will finish clearing my fridge and pantry of the few remaining perishables, and tonight is the “last supper” at my best friends’ house. I’m looking forward to having one last big meal with them, but I’m also feeling very ready for the pre-op diet to start and for this penultimate phase to be underway.

I’ve been starting to plan ahead a little. For example, I always put my Christmas decorations up the weekend after Thanksgiving, but that’s surgery week so I will now decorate the weekend before (luckily, that planning reminded me that I need a new lighted wreath for the front door; one got delivered a few days ago  ). I’ve also confirmed my dog’s boarding reservation, and starting putting a few things aside for the overnight bag I’ll take to the hospital.

I have no strong feelings about Daylight Saving Time. Sure, it takes the dog a while to adjust, but I don’t really mind the changes. I wouldn’t care if we stopped doing it. These days, I only have 6 clocks to change: oven, microwave, on the piano, bathroom, bedside, and a little one I keep in my home office despite the fact that it’s surrounded by computers. I used to dread changing the clock in the car, but my BMW automatically adjusts. My car has a bunch of fancy features, but for some reason the clock changing itself feels extra fancy (even though my phone has done it for 15+ years).

And now, I shall go hang out on the couch with my doggy until it’s time to go to my friends’ house. Catch y’all in the new thread…I’ll be reading it, at the very least!

It was nice to wake up to light instead of dark this morning. Had some pissed off critters on the deck waiting for their delayed peanut breakfast. Earl the squirrel was particularly miffed.

Happy Sunday!

Another 28-degree day at the park.
However, it was light out when I got there.
All the dogs were feeling good, they sure like the cold.
Echo started to get a little pissy with Roxy, who she usually gets along with. The guys in the group yelled at her, and she listens to them. A new dog joined us and Echo was fine with her.

The time change doesn’t bother me much.
I like that it is getting light earlier in the mornings though.

I’ve decided to get a new coat. It’s been a pain though. I found one I liked, until I saw the $300 price tag. A few others I liked were out of stock and no idea when they would be available.
I need more pockets. I’d like a zippered one for my keys. a
I wish I had gotten my boots a half size bigger. They fit, until I pulled out the heavier socks.

Lots of stuff to do today.

Happy Sunday! It rains. I itch. That’s it for news.

Moooom, it does sound like the yogurt. I wonder if you still get probiotics with bad yogurt. Hmmm…

Wait. WHAT??!? Where did you see that? Is it definite or just a poll? When would it go into effect? I agree with you: AWFUL idea, for all the reasons you mentioned and then some. Sooo stupid. Now I has a sulk on.

Gotta disagree with you there, ol’ chum. (Just an expression. You’re a young chum.) You do get happiness from things in your own little world. The fact you’re even happier when people you care about are happy doesn’t make you too other-centered; it makes you a compassionate person. Ahem! [assumes nasal but powerful voice] :musical_note:Peeeepul! Peeepul who need peeeeeepul! Are the luckiest peeepul in the woooorld! :musical_note:

Are the dogs howling yet?

When I belonged to an HOA, that’s how we elected presidents: whoever didn’t show up was it. Definitely encouraged attendance.

I just realized I’ve always read this as purification. I know you don’t need purtifyin’. I’m hoping you need purifyin’.

From April:

https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/washington-legislature-oks-step-toward-year-round-daylight-saving/281-e7812fa3-f9d5-4344-a67b-a2ab3519e57b

The Washington Legislature has approved a measure to make daylight saving time permanent in the state if federal law changes to allow it.

The House approved changes made in the Senate on 90-6 vote Tuesday. The measure now heads to Gov. Jay Inslee.

Gov. Jay Inslee signed a law to make Daylight Saving Time permanent in Washington state…

OK, I’m relieved to know it’s IF the federal law changes. Maybe it’s not too late to convince people. I can say from many years’ experience as a teacher and a mom that DST is hard on kids. Their body tell them they should still be up at night because it’s light out, and in the morning, their bodies say it’s dark out, so not time to wake up.

Stupid WWI. If it hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

OK, sulk over.

I’m with seanette, pick one and keep it year round.

I barely remember my dad changing clocks when I was a kid. From 1966 to just a few years ago, they stuck with year round standard time. In practicality, the northwestern counties tended to use Chicago time, Clark County tended to go with Louisville time and for whatever, Knox County changed clocks. This made judging the time a crapshoot if you didn’t know the locality.

Sunday chores are done, working on an organization project in the studio before going back to creative stuff and just finished supper (chili, cucumber salad and cornbread). See y’all tomorrow!

I’m off to the soft opening event at the restaurant I’ve been working with. This will be the first crowded thing I’ll have been to since before. Not quite sure how I feel about it. If it gets uncomfortable I’ll just leave.

Stay safe, y’all.

Howdy Y’all! Got deheathenated, the flags got dedicated, the Vestry got met, and I plopped down a plaque in the Columbarium. I got a text from OYKW just as Vestry was endin’. He wanted to let me know he decided to swipe The General’s N.O,L. and was about to leave to pick it up. Perfect timin’ as he had just gotten back with it when I got to da cave. So that was an unexpected and welcome treat. The biiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Chillage ensues.

See y’all in the brand new MMP!

Yes, that is always an option.

Thanks, that’s a very kind perspective.

How exciting for you! Keep us posted, and enjoy your last big meal(s) meanwhile.

Hey, I work there, and … yeah, can’t really argue.

I’m gonna write my dad a belated birthday card, maybe even drop it in a mailbox tonight. Already rolled the big bin out to the curb, but I need to feed the ratties still + something for myself.

It’s nearly pitch-dark outside already ( ) but some determined soul is out there mowing. Homeboy must have a flashlight taped to his mower or something.

Got ambitious enough to go mail off the card AND gather another box worth of trash to put out.

Ratties got white bread as a treat, and mealworms to offset the empty carbs with some protein.

I have some bacon that needs usin’ up + half an onion, so I’m leaning towards pan-frying pierogi for dinner.
I also have crusty bread that needs to be finished off, which usually means soup.

It’s still early (despite the lack of sunshine telling me to just go to bed already) so perhaps I shall fix both, for First Dinner and then Second Dinner.

If you have clear skies right now, go look outside. There’s an exceptionally bright Venus, right by the crescent moon.

It’s quite lovely.

Evening all. Soccer got refereed and I ended up feeling bad, I missed something (parent encroaching on the field) and from the play that developed a goal that decided the game was scored. I still think it did the right thing, the parent was comforting a child, they were not involved in the play at all, and the goal came after the other team moved it 50 yards up the field…but I still feel bad for missing it, these might be 8-9 year olds, but I take my refereeing seriously and try to give them the best game possible and I missed something I should have seen. So I’m blue about that. I’ll recover by tomorrow, but I’ll remember it (I remember my bad calls a lot longer than I remember my good ones).

So the early nightfall simply added to my mood, albeit the Red Robin Monster Burger helped out a little bit. Now need to sort out the laundry and clean out the car of all the soccer stuff.

shoe, a favorite SF author of mine once wrote “Shared pain is lessened; Shared joy increased.” On the whole, I have found that to be excellent advice.

Oopsie, might not be all that pleasant with the prep, but at least you have a goal in front of you; hope everything works as planned. And glad somebody liked Jr. High…

VanGo, hope you hear some nice comments on your part of the decor.

Sari, good luck on the coat front; hardly need one down here in N. Ali-bama, and swampy probably doesn’t even own one.

FCM, hope you’re feeling better. Never ate at Dickie’s. Now I probably never will.

OK, need to watch some tackleball and work on some puzzles to divert my mind. All y’all take care and if I don’t check back, catch you on the next MMP.

Sun went down before 6, Alex Catt has been Velcroed to me all day but the alarm clock is back to being 50min fast. Having a Negroni. I also need to buy a new football jersey, since Aaron Rodgers is now dead to me.

“Gavrilo, can you do something to screw up the world for a century to come?”
“I’ll take a shot at it.”

We wound up driving just north of Annapolis to look at a boat - OMG, what a beauty!!! It’s a 1986, but dang, it’s been well-cared-for! We’re taking a hard look at our finances and deciding our next step. It will have to be a quick step, tho, because these boats go fast. We shall see.

I’m in a very weird position. I’ve always managed our finances because FCD doesn’t like to, doesn’t pay attention to all of the bills, and he’s not particularly interested in the whole process. So for the last 38 years, I’ve worked to keep the bills paid and do my best to tuck extra aside against our retirement years. And now we’re in our retirement years, and I can’t let it go! Buying this boat will obviously take a chunk of change. We have it. We saved it for this time of our life.

And I feel panic at the thought of the account balance going down. It’s irrational, and it’s not. We’ll still have a comfortable cushion in case of emergency. We’ll still be able to save some money from our SS and pension payments, and we still won’t need to touch either of our annuities yet. But one part of me is screaming “NO! DON’T SPEND!!!” I suspect even if I had a multi-million dollar winning lottery jackpot, I’d worry about money. I know it drives FCD crazy. It drives me crazy. Old habits are hard to break.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens. We’ve discussed what we’ll offer and what we want in return. Time to sleep on it. If we do decide to get it, we’ll cancel both of the cruises we have scheduled next year. Soooooooo…

FCM Yanno the saying about boat owners. The two best days are when they buy the boat and when they sell the boat. But y’all could have some good times on it in between. And, if’n you keep it up it’ll be still worth a pretty penny when it comes selling time.

The opening event was pretty good. I was glad they kept it to about 50% capacity. I had some constructive criticism for the dish I got from the kitchen…fish and chips…the fries really oughta be as hot as the fish, and if you’re gonna advertise chipotle cole slaw it should have at least a little heat or something. Plus, a problem I had pointed out about the bar layout proved correct. You shouldn’t have the main drink prep spot back to back with the POS station. But, not my circus, not my monkeys.

doggio I’m from Maine, so I’m a Pats fan, but Rodgers was always a fave of mine, Packers are my NFC team. But this anti-vax crap has really turned me off of him. That, along with the whole summer long drama of coming back to play…f him.

shoe Good on you for sending off a card, and bacon + pierogies sounds good.
