I finally found a tagline!

While re-reading ‘Time Must Have A Stop’ by Aldous Huxley (Harper & Brothers, 1944) I came upon the following verse:

Ignore the stale figs, the weevils and the whippings,
The old men scared of dying, the women in cages.
In a chronic June, what highbrow heavyweights
Surround the beard of wisdom!
Hark, near by
The twangling and the flutes, Before, behind,
Gyre after gyre, what orbed resiliences,
The last veil loosened, uneclipse their moons!
And all the while, dazzling upon a thousand
Islands in the hyacinthine sea,
What bulls, what boys, what frenzy of swans and nipples,
What radiant lusts, like a red forge panting up
From fire to purer fire, to Light Itself–
The incandescent copulation of Gods.

Very nice and moving, but too long for a tagline. But it got me to searching, and in due course I found one I think is perfect for the SDMB. Here it is:

I picked mine when I signed up, and haven’t changed it since. I fear that in SD time, it’s ancient now.

eh, you coulda just waited until you’ve been signed up for a few months… like me… and wait for someone to say something nice to you…
(it took 5 months for someone to compliment me hahahhahaha)

Then he didn’t even click the “show sig” box. Ad Noctum’s sig is something I said about him. (No problem.) Mine is also something another Doper said to me and I’ve had it for a long time. (Since July 15th, I think. Hmm, now I’ll have to check.) Anyway, yeah.

No, I was complimented pretty much right away, but didn’t think it was right to post it as a tagline. Just modest, I guess. Plus, I didn’t really know the reputation of the person complimenting me. Nothing like putting some drivel from a troll on your tagline.

But I understand about waiting around for someone to say something nice – it can seem a bit cliquish around here.

Frankly though, if we needed to be stroked, we’d go hang out in a chatroom. This is the SDMB, and there is an implied standard, for bad or good.

I get my sigs from all over the place. Occasionally I use something that someone says to me, but most often I think of random shit when I’m dicking around at 4:00 AM*. I keep all my old sigs saved up in a file on my computer, so if I ever want to reuse an “Oldie-but-goodie”, it’s there.

*See my current sig.
