Is it ever acceptable to use an exclamation mark AND a question mark, like this!? Or am I really pushing my luck… and my grammatical failings?

Yep, you’re right. I knew there was a 50% chance I was wrong. Luckilly, that particular email just got sent to my “nutjob” aunt who will not know the difference, and not to my smart grandma who would. If it was going to grandma, I’d have checked.

Just to muddy things up however, counsel can be a noun, e.g. Counsel for the Plaintiff.
I would advise these people to be careful what they pray for.
