I hate when I do that in the MMP! - old

Holding you in my heart, Nellie.

Sorry Nellie.

Well, according to my Sunday School and Confirmation classes, God promised to make “a great nation” out of Abraham’s descendants. Abraham had sex with his wife and got her pregnant but, because he didn’t believe his senior citizen wife could get pregnant, he also banged his concubine, Hagar. They BOTH got pregnant, but Isaac was the legitimate heir that God had promised and Ishmael, to put it not so delicately, was the bastard. The people of Israel, “God’s people”, descended from Isaac, but the Muslim line descended from Ishmael. So, if anything, it is the other way around.

The toughest part for me will be lunch. I like to make myself a wrap with ham and swiss on a tortilla, then I nuke it till the cheese is slightly melty and the tortilla rolls up easily. So I’m going to take Tobias and go to the thrift store in the hopes of finding a small, cheap countertop microwave to get me by.

I like his stuff. :stuck_out_tongue: Well, a lot of it, anyway. 2AM Paradise Cafe is a great album, IMHO. And there are a lot of songs on other albums that I really like. So there.

I had a good sleep, despite dreamage that included Will Smith, Jim Carrey answering my mom’s phone, a cake-decorating contest, and a weird search for a bathroom. At least I got close to 7 hours of slumber.

My email reminded me tomorrow is the b-day of an ex-bf. Ex as in 50 years ago. He got back in touch with me in early 2000, but ghosted me (or maybe he died??) 4 or 5 years ago. After 3 unanswered emails, I gave up. Guess I should delete the reminder. I do wonder what became of him, tho. Unfortunately, he’s got a fairly common name, so googling him likely wouldn’t help. Oh well…

The chilly weather continues. Rain promised again for the weekend. I’m going to try to mow on Firday, including the stoopit ditch. That’s pretty much all the excitement in my life.

Happy Wednesday.

Mornin’ all! A half hour post-sunrise here and I’ve been balconatin’ n’ caffinatin’ in the cool about an hour. 62/17 (brrr, but a nice change of pace for a few minutes) on the way to 83/28 (that’s more like it) with clear skies and the usual puffies over the clear bright ocean. Managed to make it 15 minutes post-sunrise out there before old Sol emerged from behind a cloud and was too bright to withstand.

{{{Nellie}}}. Nothing more important to say this morning than that. We’re here for whatever small good we can do for you.

Good luck to wheelz with the job, the schedule, and the “place” which I assume is the motel you’re temporarily living in.

It’s not all that bad (hey, I lived in Northern Ohio my first 28 years on the planet), it will get below freezing at night and we’ll have a few days in the teens, but we’ll also get days in the 60’s in January now and then. Not a lot of moisture, normally we’ll get a couple ‘dustings’ of snow each year and an appreciable amount (4-5") once every couple of years (which induces much panic). Compared to Pilot down in Florida, we get cold; compared to shoe up in Michigan, we’re pretty comfortable; it’s relativity, y’all…

{{{nellie}}}. Come back when you can talk about it; we’ll be here.

Got a good night’s sleep comfortably buried in the cold-weather comforter and have broken fast, so that’s a good start to the day. Need to get the garbage and recyclables out to the curb sometime this evening, but outside of a planned swimming and sauna trip, not much reason to be out today. Weather is 50F and supposed to get to 73F today, without a drop of rain to be seen (I’m skeptical when they say that…).

OK, take care all, happy Hump Day, and onward!

(((((((((nellie)))))) I am so sorry to read this. We are here when you’re ready.

This is precisely what Facebook is for. Even common names will show their picture and location, so it’s usually pretty easy to narrow down who’s who.

Assuming 1a.) he’s on FB, and 2b.) you care.

Bright and sunny now in western Mitten State, although the Oracles predict rain overnight and tomorrow.

Got a bit of energy last night - okay, I was bored - and washed all my dishes, washed my hair, did a load of laundry, and changed the sheets … so, okay, two loads of laundry.

Did not sweep Monkey’s room, although I did scoop the box. So, partial credit there.

Alright, I should probably roll outta bed, and … sit on my butt for a bit. Closing shift tonight - I need the hours.

Oh, and adding my voice to the {{{ nettie }} chorus. I’m sorry you’re mentally curled up in a corner.

Morning, all! My property manager’s brother (PMB) and the cleaning ladies have all been and gone. PMB got here at a little after 8:30: I figured he’d do the wall in the third bedroom today and then come back for the wall in the office, but turned out he planned to work on both today. I had no idea about the extent of the needed repairs, how long such work takes, etc. A little curveball, but I’m all for “sooner rather than later” so I shut down both work laptops and spent ~30 min relocating to the dining room table. I can’t work on tiny laptop screens, so being able to work out here meant moving two monitors, the giant monitor stand, docking stations, etc., but I got everything set up and running in time for my 9:30 meeting. PMB also helped me move my desk, which was right in front of the trouble spot in the office; luckily, we just needed to shift it a few feet. The cleaning ladies arrived about an hour after he got here.

PMB left shortly before 11:00, and will come back at the end of the day to see if what he did is dry enough for one more coat. Then, he’ll come back again in a few days to paint. The cleaning ladies left 10-15 minutes after PMB, and there has been blessed silence in the house for the past 45-50 minutes. Both of my direct reports are back at work today and I need to have conversations with each of them, but they can wait until after lunch: I want to just sit with the quiet for a while.

Oh, turns out the wall damage isn’t because of water! I’ll have to ask PMB when he comes back, but my guess is that as the house has settled over the years (it was built in '53) the metal window frame corners became weak spots. I’m quite relieved that it isn’t water, not only because the damage is easier to fix but also because there’s no way they can try to claim that it’s my fault (there were early/vague insinuations that perhaps I hadn’t cleaned the gutters often enough).

In other news, I finished the new LEGO set last night! I can’t post a photo right now – I’m not in my home office so I’m not sitting at my personal computer, and I can’t access any photo hosting sites from the work laptop – but I’ll share over the weekend. When I got inspired to work on it I was already close to done, and decided that it would be better/nicer to have a floral centerpiece on the table for the cleaning ladies vs a bunch of bricks and instruction booklets, etc. Turns out they had to deal with me and my work stuff instead.

Nah, there’s no space in the third bedroom that I’m deliberately not using. Cleaning it out a couple of months back left it properly neat/tidy. I moved a couple of things from below/near the window before PMB arrived, but nothing had to leave that room.

I’m already looking forward to when the painting is done, though, and I can move my desk back into place and return to working from the home office. It’s not bad out here, but I already miss my usual setup (and having the doggy asleep next to me). Before PMB left he vaguely said something about maybe coming back for the painting tomorrow morning…I’ll learn more when he’s here again later today. :crossed_fingers:

I think there’s a good chance you’re right.

It’ll be embarassing to make an appointment for that, but I’m becoming increasingly convinced that I’m not going to be able to fix the issue on my own. Happily, though, what I thought was a scraped gum turned out to be just a big/stubborn piece of popcorn shell!! :woman_facepalming: It worked itself loose while I was at the gym. That was the source of most of the pain, so it was quite a relief to have it out.

Thinking of you… :people_hugging:

From last week:

I did yet get it. UPS says it’s out for delivery today.

He wasn’t on FB back when we still communicated, and it’s more that I’m curious rather than I care.

No luck at the thrift store so I guess I’ll have to cook old school for the rest of the month. Oh, the humanity!

GG are a fierce hunting cat!

A baby vole found its way into the catio and GG caught it and bought it inside to play with. We thought he had another grasshopper and hubs went to investigate, at which time the vole escaped and ran under the stove.

After much “what the heck are we going to do now” discussion, the cats got locked in the bedroom, the stove got pulled out and the cornered vole got covered with a towel and carried to the furthest part of our yard for release. We are hoping that voles are able to learn from experience and will not only refuse to ever get close to a cat again, will tell all of it’s family and friends.

We let GG out to inspect behind the stove before we pushed it back in, but he’s convinced that something is under the stove and looks to be taking up residence there.

Maine Coons are known for their hunting abilities, but as GG showed, they aren’t really known for their killing and eating of rodents skillz. Of course, Maine Coons nowadays are usually housecats and even if the mamas know how to kill and eat prey, they don’t have any opportunities to teach their kittens how to do that part of catting.

It’s kinda like how kids aren’t raised knowing how to cook anymore, their moms are all too busy working to spend hours in the kitchen making cookies with their toddlers.

Quilt update: I am just finished cutting out the pieces for month 9 and plan to start sewing in an hour or so. While I was in class Saturday morning I asked the shop owner what was in t he works for the 2024 block of the month. She said that they had not actually decided but this was most likely to be the one.

This was just a picture posted on the bulletin board, so forgive the poor quality.

Sunflower has already signed up and paid for this BOM at our regular fabric shop, stating in January:

The dates on the photo are just from the flier from another shop that did it this year. She is also contemplating a second class at Bernina. Her current class is in month 10 there. She just upgraded her machine to the new Bernina 790 PRO

Looked up the menu for the dispo where I used to work. Holy crap, prices have gone down as competition went up!

I’ll hafta waltz back in there one of these days, see who’s left of the old familiar faces.

Meanwhile, Monkey is on cautious probation, again, and being constantly bribed back into the house with treats and Squeezy-Crack so he doesn’t go wandering across the street and getting into fights, again.

Seems his nemesis is another black cat. Great, I can’t even tell them apart at a distance.

Going in at 4 instead of 3 is weird. I have time to, like, make a whole meal! Contemplating black bean soup, just cuz I have both kielbasa and bacon, plus a cheater can of beans so I don’t hafta deal with dried.

Or I’ll make a sausage/potato/onion hash. Will decide shortly.

Oh, I got ambitious enough to make another candle last night. This one is #4.
The third is so fugly it’s not worth photographing (watch, it’ll burn the most evenly!) but this one reminds me of a 70s sweater.

Pic please.

I like doing the same thing with tortillas and cheese with other fillings. I’ve always used the microwave. But daughter told me that what she does is put the tortilla on a skillet to warm it up. I think you could probably put the cheese on top of the tortilla in a skillet and let it warm up slowly to get melty.

Yes, we were hoping that young squirrel told all it’s family and friends to stay out of our backyard when Bella is around. She got ahold of it and if it wasn’t for me being a step away, that squirrel would have endured a good shaking and likely met an untimely demise.

{{{nellie}}} please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help.

Hubs will be home in an hour or two. He left 12 days ago and drove to NM for the Hot Air Balloon Fest and the annular eclipse; stayed with a college buddy. So, I’ve been cleaning to make the place somewhat presentable again.

Howdy Y’all! Sorry I didn’t post earlier today, but I am not feelin’ too good. Not covid, I took a test, Not flu cause I have none of those symptoms. The likely culprit is a sinus infection with a little bit of cold. ICK! I’ve spent most of the day asleep and am tryin’ to stay up for a bit now. Maybe I’ll take a shower. Or not.

{{{Nellie}}} prayers and good vibes headed out. Come back and talk whenever you feel like doin’ so.

Everyone else, I read, sorta, but retention is nil, so, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
