I just saw this thread today. I’m sorry for your loss, Two Many Cats. Shuppie was lucky to have such a wonderful friend.
I’m sorry to hear that. We had to let go a 19-year-old cat after (as far as we or the vet could tell) a serious stroke a few years ago. I know it’s the right thing to do when there’s no real hope for recovery, but that doesn’t make it feel any better.
Wow, 19 years is a long time to have a cat - that’s 19 years of him being around you pouncing on you and standing in front of your computer screen. Must be hard. My sympathies.
Do you think you’ll get another cat after a while?
Oh yes, most definitely. In fact, most likely two of them. Not just because of my username. I just find that, in general, cats enjoy having another cat around. Two cats is the perfect number to have in my book.
The only thing is I agree that older cats should be adopted if at all possible. They are harder to place than kittens, and it is good karma to give older cats a home.
But it’s just…It’s been nineteen years since I had a kitten around the place, and I miss having kittens so much. So, in my heart, I’m leaning toward getting two kittens. It’s selfish of me, but at my age, this would be the last time that I could (almost) guarantee a lifelong home for two kittens, should they live as long as my previous cats. All of my cats except one lived to at least seventeen years.
I’ll post when the new ones come into my life.
Thanks again, everyone, for your kind words and warm wishes. I truly appreciate my friends here on the Dope.
I’m so sorry for your loss. We have just our two girls left. While they are sweet and cuddlely, they don’t entertain like our boys did. I miss the Maxxes.
I hope your next two are happy and healthy for a long, long time.
RIP Shuppie. My condolences to you, and glad to hear you are planning to give two kittens a loving home.
